WASHINGTON: Two senators want to know why a $1 billion Sept. 11 insurance fund appropriated by Congress to help ailing ground zero workers has not been used to compensate those exposed to harmful substances.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and the committee’s ranking Republican, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, said in a letter to the insurance company overseeing the Sept. 11 health-related claims that they are considering convening a hearing in September.
“Reports that the World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on salaries on administrators and over $45 million to private law firms are troubling,” the letter said.
The two also said they have concerns about the $74 million that reportedly has been spent on overhead costs and legal bills. The letter, dated Wednesday, was addressed to Christine LaSala, CEO of WTC Captive Insurance Co.
Michael A. Cardozo, New York City’s corporation counsel, said in a statement that Captive Insurance Company is an insurance company, not a compensation fund. He said the city has urged Congress to create a compensation fund for injured workers.
“Instead, Congress created an insurance company, and the Captive Insurance Company is obligated to defend all claims that have a reasonable and valid defense,” Cardozo said. “We would strongly welcome Congress, as we have repeatedly urged, to allocate funds for compensation without the need for litigation.”
The insurance company issued a statement saying it would respond to the letter once… Continue reading

US Social Forum Supports Call for Independent, International Investigation into 9/11
Thanks to donations from some of our generous supporters, 911truth.org was present at the first ever United States Social Forum, along with 15 other 9/11 truth activists from six states. We attended with the idea we’d have to convince people to look at the need for a real investigation, but what we learned was that most everyone was already aware of some important 9/11 questions and agreed with us! Even better, we introduced a Resolution demanding an “independent, international investigation of 9/11″ which received resounding applause by thousands in attendance at the final Peoples Assembly! Philadelphia Emergency Anti-War Conference — ‘Activists Unite Forging a New Vision and Strategy’
A Coalition of twenty-four activist groups gathered at Independence Center on July Fourth, 2007 for the Philadelphia Emergency Anti-War Convention. Three-hundred activists united to repeat history; as our forefathers/mothers of this nation did, we too must face tyranny, realizing the urgency to change the corrupt system causing so much suffering. Convention participants acknowledged how crucial it is we work together to achieve our vision. Distinguished speakers provided education and insights for the participants,… Continue reading

17, 2007 — The $1 billion insurance fund set up for the World Trade Center
cleanup has violated its congressional mandate to pay legitimate worker-injury
claims and “squandered” millions on expenses, an explosive lawsuit
Controlled by Mayor Bloomberg, the WTC Captive Insurance Co. and its agents
have “unethically profited” from the federal fund, draining money
available for ill workers, alleges the suit, to be filed today in Manhattan
The WTC insurance fund has spent close to $74 million on overhead and legal
bills so far – but paid just $45,000 to one worker who fell off a ladder.
While letting the fund pay fat salaries and fees to its employees, consultants
and lawyers, the mayor has wrongly exploited the unit to fight claims by thousands
of workers with illnesses blamed on toxic exposure, the suit says.
“Congress gave Bloomberg a billion dollars to cover for the mistakes he
and his predecessor, Mayor Giuliani, made in failing to protect tens of thousands
of workers,” lawyer David Worby said. “Now, adding insult to injury,
he refuses to use the funds intended for that exact purpose – to help the sick
and dying 9/11 heroes.”
The suit will be filed by Worby Groner & Napoli Bern, a law firm already
battling the city in a class-action negligence suit on behalf of nearly 10,000
ill WTC responders.…

“9/11 was not a perfect storm. Don’t let them tell you it was. Create a Commission.” – Ed Asner, actor, former president Screen Actors Guild
By creating a ballot initiative, we can return the process of governance to We the People. Let’s face it, voting every few years just isnt’ enough. We need 30,000 petition signatures as soon as possible to get this on the Nov. 6th general election. This will enable us to create the conditions for a citizen-based, rather than government insider-based investigation to address the multitude of questions from 9/11 families which were ignored by the Kean/Hamilton Commission, as well as the issues of the toxic health hazards and the mistreatment of so many first responders.
Read all about it at www.nyc911initiative.org . You can either download a petition there, come to Union Sq. at noon on Saturdays, or call our Hotline at 646-537-1755 and leave your name and address.

Firefighter Web video blasts Giuliani
Rudy Giuliani’s reputation as the man who led the city out of the darkness of 9/11 came under sharp assault yesterday in a video that accused him of mishandling the attack and then turning a financial and political profit from it.
The ex-mayor’s presidential campaign moved quickly to discredit the film, entitled “Rudy Giuliani: Urban Legend,” which the 280,000-member International Association of Fire Fighters released on the Web yesterday.
Interspersing attack footage and interviews with victims’ relatives and union officials, the film charges Giuliani gave the FDNY inadequate radios and interfered with efforts to recover the dead.
“Whenever I hear [Giuliani] talk, I want to scream out to the world and say, ‘God, he’s so full of it,'” says Rosaleen Tallon, whose firefighter brother was killed.
City Uniformed Firefighters Association President Steve Cassidy, who appears in the video, says he hopes it will debunk Giuliani’s 9/11 mystique.
Team Giuliani moved quickly to rebut the video as a distortion from union leaders who back Democrats and don’t represent rank-and-file views.
Defending Giuliani at an afternoon news conference were former Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Richard Sheirer and Lee Ielpi, a former city firefighter whose son died on Sept. 11.
The men praised Giuliani as a competent and compassionate leader who did much for the FDNY before and after 9/11. Giuliani spokesman Mike McKeon bashed the union leadership as making “Michael Moore look like Edward R. Murrow.”

The article below is reprinted from EXTRA! Magazine
On October 17, 2006, when George W. Bush signed the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2007–a $538 billion military spending bill–he enacted into law a section called “Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies.” In the view of many, this Act substantially changed fundamental laws of the United States, giving Bush–and all future U.S. presidents–new and sweeping powers to use the U.S. military anywhere in the United States, virtually as he sees fit–for disaster relief, crowd control, suppression of public disorder, or any “other condition” that might arise.
News coverage of these significant changes in the law has been virtually nonexistent. At nearly every stage when it might have received coverage, the news media have completely ignored the story: When the NDAA was debated, when it was passed in the House on September 29 and in the Senate on Sept.… Continue reading

On July 21st we will be holding a great event to help ease the pain to some of these brave souls. This event will only be a success if everyone from all 9/11 organizations get involved. Please, I implore all of you to show your support, your passion, and your dedication to this cause. I have stood by your side, and now ask in return you stand by ours. I know many of you are not from New York, but spreading the word, or buying a T-shirtfor this event, will help so many sick and injured responders who desperately need your help. Please feel free to go to the web site or call me direct. Together we all can make a difference. As Americans we have extra money, food, or body parts. So if I can give a kidney, and help hundreds through my foundation, then maybe just maybe you all can help with some grass roots activism and spreading the word of a special date. For the First Time, New York Links a Death to 9/11 Dust
By ANTHONY DePALMA
New York City’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Charles S. Hirsch, has for the first time directly linked a death to exposure to dust from the destruction of the World Trade Center.
In a letter made public yesterday, Dr. Hirsch said that he was certain “beyond a reasonable doubt” that dust from the twin towers contributed to the death of Felicia Dunn-Jones, 42, a civil rights lawyer who was engulfed on Sept. 11 as she ran from her office a block away from the trade center.
She later developed a serious cough and had trouble breathing, and she died five months after the terrorist attack.
Dr. Hirsch said he had decided to amend Mrs. Dunn-Jones’s death certificate to indicate that exposure to trade center dust “was contributory to her death.” The manner of death will be changed from natural causes to homicide.
Her name will be added to the official list of World Trade Center victims, and the official number of people who died as a result of the attack on the twin towers will be increased to 2,750.
By making a formal connection between Mrs. Dunn-Jones’s death and her relatively brief exposure to the dust, the medical examiner’s decision could have a wide impact on how the city deals with the growing number of illnesses and deaths linked in some way to ground zero.
The city is already under pressure to re-examine the deaths of people like James Zadroga, 34, a New York police detective who worked at the debris pile in the months after the towers fell.…Continue reading

and he attends Trinity United Methodist Church.
As unlikely as it may seem to some, Ready also is the man responsible for starting

network of people worldwide who are challenging the official explanation for
the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

KUCINICH SEEKS CHENEY IMPEACHMENT; AMERICANS TO RALLY NATIONWIDE ON SATURDAY
NEW YORK, N.Y., April 23, 2007 – Following on today’s announcement by Rep. Dennis Kucinich that he will file Articles of Impeachment against Vice-President Dick Cheney, Americans across the country will take to the streets on April 28 to call for the impeachment of both Cheney and Bush. From Miami, Florida to North Pole, Alaska, more than 100 actions are planned nationwide.
Jacob Park, National Coordinator of the April 28 actions, said “George Bush and Dick Cheney lied the nation into an illegal war of aggression, are spying on millions of innocent Americans, and have authorized the use of torture. The time has come for all Americans—particularly our representatives in Congress—to decide where they stand. To turn a blind eye to lying, spying, and torture makes a mockery of our most basic values and the very notion of democracy.”
On April 28, a visit by George Bush to Miami will be greeted with a massive impeachment rally organized by dozens of local groups. At the California Democratic Convention in San Diego, hundreds of delegates will defy the party leadership by bringing an impeachment resolution to the floor. Thousands of Americans will form “human murals” spelling out “IMPEACH!” with their bodies at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, Coney Island in New York, the foot of the Washington monument in Washington, D.C., and other locations. And elsewhere people will spell it out… Continue reading

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK An appeals court ruling could spell trouble for New Yorkers
suing the Environmental Protection Agency and its former chief for saying that
sooty Lower Manhattan air was safe to breathe after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
A three judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declared this
week that EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman and other agency officials
can’t be held constitutionally liable for making rosy declarations about air
quality in the days following the World Trade Center’s destruction.
The opinion, written by the court’s chief judge, Dennis Jacobs, said opening
EPA workers up to lawsuits for giving out bad information during a crisis could
have a catastrophic side effect.
“Officials might default to silence in the face of the public’s urgent
need for information,” Jacobs wrote.
The ruling, filed Thursday, applied only to a suit brought by five government
employees who did rescue and cleanup work at ground zero, but it contained language
suggesting that similar legal claims could face trouble.
It specifically mentioned a class action lawsuit brought by lower Manhattan
residents who claim Whitman jeopardized their health by declaring that “the
air is safe to breathe” at a time when, according to the EPA inspector
general, a quarter of dust samples were recording unhealthy asbestos levels.
Last year, U.S. District Judge Deborah A. Batts, refused to dismiss that case,
calling Whitman’s statements “conscience-shocking.”
That decision is now on appeal and has yet to be argued before the 2nd… Continue reading

Scholars debate 9/11 findings
By JOHN GLEESON
An unbiased observer doesn’t need to look beyond what’s happening on the ground
today in Iraq and Afghanistan to conclude the War on Terror has been a brutal,
manipulative means to a transparently self-serving end.
None of this is news, however, to proponents of “9/11 Truth,” a worldwide
movement that seems to keep growing despite an unofficial media blackout on
their questions and investigations. So what are these “Truthers” saying?
Many people were quick to declare 9/11 a possible “inside job” based
on the visible facts themselves, in particular the blanket failure of air defence,
which even former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura said defied all logic and
precedent. They also seized on the history (largely unknown in North America)
of Pentagon-linked “false-flag” terrorist attacks in Europe during
the Cold War, and CIA involvement with al-Qaida operations.
With the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, it was seen that 9/11 was amazingly
fortuitous to the Bush administration, elements of which had been looking for
excuses to invade both countries — for purely strategic-commercial reasons
— in the months and years prior to the attacks.
But it was the release of the 9/11 Commission Report in 2004 that breathed
full life into the 9/11 Truth Movement — because it was now apparent to many
that the “official story” relied on massive distortion and evasion.
The most dramatically disputed aspect of 9/11 is the question of what the world
really saw that day in New York City, when three steel-frame high-rises — the
110-storey Twin Towers and the 47-storey WTC 7 — collapsed at near free-fall
speed neatly into their own footprints.…

Rudy Giuliani’s rise to prominent national and world attention was elevated
by his role as Mayor of New York City during a time of heightened challenge
that culminated in the fateful events of September 11th, 2001. The leadership
qualities he exhibited that day won him broad and wide acclaim from the 9/11
commission, "On September 11, 2001, the City of New York showed what it
was made of. The heroism of the firemen and the police officers who risked and
in previously unimaginable numbers gave their lives in the quest for saving
the lives of others, and your leadership on that day and in the days following
gave the rest of the nation, and indeed the world, an unvarnished view of the
indomitable spirit and the humanity, of this great city, and for that I salute
Having been established as a hero, Giuliani has been emphasizing his 9/11 status
ever since and today is enjoying promising numbers in Presidential polls which
opine him as the ‘nominee’ to beat in ’08. He has refined himself as ‘America’s
Mayor,’ suggesting that if he can handle the events of that day, then surely
as President he could handle anything that might come his way. Many Americans
hold Giuliani in high regard, considering him a great leader, a political hero;
the type of person who can take charge in a moments notice and manage when things
seem at their worse. This definition has been so ingrained into… Continue reading

NEW YORK (AP) — Rudy Giuliani’s White House aspirations are inescapably tied
to September 11, 2001 — for better and for worse.
While the former mayor of the nation’s largest city was widely lionized for
his post-9/11 leadership — “Churchillian” was one adjective, “America’s
mayor” was Oprah Winfrey’s assessment — city firefighters and their families
are renewing their attacks on him for his performance before and after the terrorist
“If Rudolph Giuliani was running on anything but 9/11, I would not speak
out,” said Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son was among the 343 FDNY
members killed in the terrorist attack. “If he ran on cleaning up Times
Square, getting rid of squeegee men, lowering crime — that’s indisputable.
“But when he runs on 9/11, I want the American people to know he was part
of the problem.”
Such comments contradict Giuliani’s post-September 11 profile as a hero and
symbol of the city’s resilience — the steadfast leader who calmed the nerves
of a rattled nation. But as the presidential campaign intensifies, criticisms
of his 2001 performance are resurfacing.
Giuliani, the leader in polls of Republican voters for his party’s nomination,
has been faulted on two major issues:
– His administration’s failure to provide the World Trade Center’s first responders with adequate radios, a long-standing complaint from relatives of the firefighters killed when the twin towers collapsed. The September 11 commission noted the firefighters at the World Trade Center were using the same ineffective radios employed by the first responders to the 1993 terrorist attack on the trade center.…Continue reading
