Only one Congressman had the personal courage and the profound respect for
our Constitution to stand on the floor of the House of Representatives and exercise
his right and his responsibility to bring Articles of Impeachment against President
George W. Bush – Ohio Representative Dennis J. Kucinich.
Now, Americans who cherish our Democracy and the Constitutional principles
upon which it was founded can stand up, speak out, and take action by signing
the one official petition that carries the full and unqualified support of the
one and only original sponsor of the impeachment resolution: Congressman Dennis
WHEREAS, in his conduct while President of the United States,
George W. Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute
the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability,
preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in
violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully
executed, has committed abuses of power.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that President George W. Bush has
acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and Commander in Chief,
and subversive of constitutional government, to the prejudice of the cause of
law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States
and that he be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors.
“…clear Presidential crimes…”
So says Constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley in an interview with MSNBC’s
Keith Olbermann about Congressman Dennis… Continue reading
On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that
President Bush is more likely to attack Iran if he believes Sen. Barack Obama
(D-IL) is going to be elected.
However, “if the president thought John McCain was going to be the next
president, he would think it more appropriate to let the next president make
that decision than do it on his way out,” Kristol said, reinforcing the
fact that McCain is offering a third Bush term on Iran.
“I do wonder with Senator Obama, if President Bush thinks Senator Obama’s
going to win, does he somehow think — does he worry that Obama won’t
follow through on that policy,” Kristol added. Host Chris Wallace then
asked if Kristol was suggesting that Bush might “launch a military strike”
before or after the election:
WALLACE: So, you’re suggesting that he might in fact, if Obama’s
going to win the election, either before or after the election, launch a military
KRISTOL: I don’t know. I mean, I think he would worry about
it. On the other hand, you can’t — it’s hard to
make foreign policy based on guesses of election results. I think Israel is
worried though. I mean, what is, what signal goes to Ahmadinejad if Obama
wins on a platform of unconditional negotiations and with an obvious reluctance
to even talk about using military force.
Kristol also suggested that Obama’s election would tempt Saudi Arabia and Egypt to think, ‘maybe we can use nuclear… Continue reading

It’s crazy, but it’s coming soon — from the same folks who brought us Iraq.
Unlike the attack on Iraq five years ago, to deal with Iran there need be no massing of troops. And, with the propaganda buildup already well under way, there need be little, if any, forewarning before shock and awe and pox — in the form of air and missile attacks — begin.
This time it will be largely the Air Force’s show, punctuated by missile and
air strikes by the Navy. Israeli-American agreement has now been reached at
the highest level; the armed forces planners, plotters and pilots are working
out the details.
Emerging from a 90-minute White House meeting with President George W. Bush on June 4, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the two leaders were of one mind:
“We reached agreement on the need to take care of the Iranian threat. I left with a lot less question marks [than] I had entered with regarding the means, the timetable restrictions, and American resoluteness to deal with the problem. George Bush understands the severity of the Iranian threat and the need to vanquish it, and intends to act on that matter before the end of his term in the White House.”
Does that sound like a man concerned that Bush is just bluff and bluster?
A member of Olmert’s delegation noted that same day that the two countries
had agreed to cooperate in case of an attack… Continue reading

AMY GOODMAN: Former Alaska senator and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Gravel is holding a news conference in New York City today to call for a new independent investigation into 9/11. Gravel will be speaking on behalf of the NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative Campaign, a grassroots group seeking to place an initiative on the ballot of the November 6th general election allowing registered New York City voters to create a new commission to investigate 9/11.
The group is looking to appoint between nine and fifteen commissioners on the panel to conduct the investigation. Some of the people who have reportedly already agreed to serve as commissioners include Lori Van Auken, a 9/11 widow, one of the so-called “Jersey Girls”; Lincoln Chafee, the former Republican senator from Rhode Island; Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, a pastor in Detroit, Michigan; as well as former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel, who joins us here today.
He has published three books this year: Citizen Power: A Mandate for Change, The Kingmakers: How the Media Threatens Our Security and Our Democracy and A Political Odyssey. His book Citizen Power: A Mandate for Change has a forward by Ralph Nader. He’ll be joining us on the show later in the week.
Welcome to Democracy Now!, Senator Gravel.
MIKE GRAVEL: Amy, thank you for having me. But before we launch into the mission of my appearance, I want to comment on this young man you just had on. I’ve got… Continue reading

The Deep State and 9/11
The unthinkable — that elements inside the state would conspire with criminals to kill innocent civilians — has become not only thinkable but commonplace in the last century. A seminal example was in French Algeria, where dissident elements of the French armed forces, resisting General de Gaulle’s plans for Algerian independence, organized as the Secret Army Organization and bombed civilians indiscriminately, with targets including hospitals and schools. 1 Critics like Alexander Litvinenko, who was subsequently murdered in London in November 2006, have charged that the 1999 bombings of apartment buildings around Moscow, attributed to Chechen separatists, were in fact the work of the Russian secret service (FSB). 2
Similar attacks in Turkey have given rise to the notion there of an extra-legal “deep state” — a combination of forces, ranging from former members of the CIA-organized Gladio organization, to “a vast matrix of security and intelligence officials, ultranationalist members of the Turkish underworld and renegade former members of the [Kurdish separatist] PKK.” 3 The deep state, financed in part by Turkey’s substantial heroin traffic, has been accused of killing thousands of civilians, in incidents such as the lethal bomb attack in November 2005 on a bookshop in Semdinli. This attack, initially attributed to the Kurdish separatist PKK, turned out to have been committed by members of Turkey’s paramilitary police intelligence service, together with a former PKK member turned informer. 4 On April 23, 2008, the former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar was ordered… Continue reading
For those who do not yet understand that Bush and Cheney have committed impeachable
offenses with regard to 9/11, I will provide information to back up the relevant
sections of Dennis Kucinich’s articles of impeachment against President Bush which deal with 9/11:
Article 2: Falsely, Systematically, and with Criminal Intent
Conflating the Attacks of September 11, 2001, With Misrepresentation of Iraq as
a Security Threat as Part of Fraudulent Justification for a War of Aggression:
Article 33: Repeatedly ignored and failed to respond to high
level intelligence warnings of planned terrorist attacks in U.S. prior to 9/11:
Article 34: Obstruction into the investigation of 9/11:
Article 35: Endangering the health of 9/11 first responders:
Of course, Cheney is even more vulnerable to impeachment for 9/11 than Bush, as he was in charge of national defenses and war games on 9/11,
watched Flight 77 from many miles out as it approached the Pentagon and let it hit, and is otherwise implicated in the deaths which occurred on
that horrible day.
America must take action to support and push forward the courageous actions
of this very small group of Representatives. American Freedom Campaign has issued
the following action alert.
Last night, on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Dennis
Kucinich (D-OH) introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President George

Dr. William Pepper on James Earl Ray’s Innocence, Sirhan Sirhan’s Innocence, 9/11 Truth and Prosecuting War Crimes
Dr. William F. Pepper is an internationally acclaimed lawyer who defended James Earl Ray in a 1999 civil trial (supported by Martin Luther King’s family) where the jury found Ray not responsible for the MLK assassination. Now Pepper is defending Sirhan Sirhan for the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, a case he says is ‘an easier one than the assassination of Martin King and the innocence of James Earl Ray’.
Last Wednesday Pepper spoke about all of his projects, including 9/11 truth and prosecuting the Bush administration for war crimes, to a packed celebrity filled house in Los Angeles. Among those in attendance were Ed Asner, Gina Belafonte, Judd Nelson and 9/11 author Professor David Ray Griffin. Videos of his talk follow …
Part 1 (6:21) – Introduction
In Part 1 Pepper talks about his background, childhood and motivation. He also speaks about the time he spent in Cuba playing baseball where he got to know Fidel Castro. According to Pepper, Castro foresaw much of what is happening in the United States today:
‘When, in that massive country to the north, the masses of the people ever understand what it is that their ruling class has done to them and is doing to them, there will be such a torrent of opposition. They will rise like never before and then there will be the… Continue reading

Continuing the 9/11 conversation.
Mike Malloy dedicated the second hour of his program to an intervew with David Ray Griffin. A wide-ranging talk about 911.
(If you support what Malloy is doing, consider becoming a NovaM Founder if you can afford it.)
We have one of our rare guests on tonight’s program. Philosopher/theologian Dr. David Ray Griffin will join us for a discussion of the events prior to the bombings and terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Those familiar with the 9/11 Truth Movement are well acquainted with Dr. Griffin and his points of view regarding those horrific acts against the people of the United States. As reported at wikipedia.com:
Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, David Ray Griffin moved his focus from questions of philosophy and religion to ones of politics and history, specifically “American expansionism and imperialism”. He intended to write a book on the subject, presenting 9/11 in terms of “blowback” for aggressive United States foreign policies of the 20th century: “Until the spring of 2003, I had not looked at any of the evidence. I was vaguely aware there were people, at least on the Internet, who were offering evidence against the official account of 9/11… I knew the US government had ‘fabricated’ evidence to go to war several times before. Nevertheless… I did not take this possibility seriously… I was so confident that they must be wrong.”

Psst! George Bush has a secret
While you Democrats are pounding each other to a pulp in Pennsylvania, the President has snuck back down to New Orleans for a meeting of the NAFTA Three: the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico.
You’re not supposed to know that — for two reasons:
First, the summit planned for the N.O. two years back was meant to showcase the rebuilt Big Easy, a monument to can-do Bush-o-nomics. Well, it is a monument to Bush’s leadership: The city still looks like Dresden 1946, with over half the original residents living in toxic trailers or wandering lost and broke in America.
The second reason Bush has kept this major summit a virtual secret is its real agenda – and the real agenda-makers. The names and faces of the guys who called the meeting must remain as far out of camera range as possible: The North American Competitiveness Council.
Never heard of The Council? Well, maybe you’ve heard of the counsellors: the chief executives of Wal-Mart, Chevron Oil, Lockheed-Martin and 27 other multinational masters of the corporate universe.
And why did the landlords of our continent order our presidents to a three-nation pajama party? Their agenda is “harmonization.”
FEMA Trailer ParksHarmonization has nothing to do with singing in fifths like Simon and Garfunkel.
Harmonization means making rules and regulations the same in all three countries. Or, more specifically,… Continue reading

Events of the last week offer a metaphorical

WASHINGTON — New government research has found “large and growing”
disparities in life expectancy for richer and poorer Americans, paralleling
the growth of income inequality in the last two decades.
Life expectancy for the nation as a whole has increased, the researchers said,
but affluent people have experienced greater gains, and this, in turn, has caused
a widening gap.
One of the researchers, Gopal K. Singh, a demographer at the Department of
Health and Human Services, said “the growing inequalities in life expectancy”
mirrored trends in infant mortality and in death from heart disease and certain
The gaps have been increasing despite efforts by the federal government to
reduce them. One of the top goals of “Healthy People 2010,” an official
statement of national health objectives issued in 2000, is to “eliminate
health disparities among different segments of the population,” including
higher- and lower-income groups and people of different racial and ethnic background.
Dr. Singh said last week that federal officials had found “widening socioeconomic
inequalities in life expectancy” at birth and at every age level.
He and another researcher, Mohammad Siahpush, a professor at the University
of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, developed an index to measure social and
economic conditions in every county, using census data on education, income,
poverty, housing and other factors. Counties were then classified into 10 groups
of equal population size.
In 1980-82, Dr. Singh said, people in the most affluent group could expect
to live 2.8 years longer than people in the most deprived group (75.8 versus

Challenging the Unchallengeable

Interview with Jarek Kupsc, Writer/Director, “The Reflecting Pool”
New feature film “The Reflecting Pool” may just be the “All the President’s Men” of our time. No, it doesn’t have Hoffman and Redford. But it is a chilling and important fact-based investigative drama.
Writer/director Jarek Kupsc (“Slumberland”) stars as Alex Prokop, a successful hard-hitting Russian/American journalist. As a last gasp before corporate takeover, his editor (Lisa Black) hands Prokop a bombshell assignment — investigate the official version of 9-11. Prokop, dismissive of 9-11 skeptics, reluctantly teams with grieving father Paul Cooper (the outstanding Joseph Culp) to investigate. After losing his daughter in the attacks, Cooper transformed himself into a 9-11 expert — at the expense of his marriage. As Prokop and Cooper kick at the hornets’ nest, a sickening, carefully orchestrated pattern of deceit emerges — and Prokop finds publishing the story may mean curtains on his career.
The well-researched (and exhaustively documented on the DVD) thriller ultimately proves more compelling than 9-11-themed documentaries such as “Loose Change” by taking a narrative approach and by personalizing the story. Disbelieving investigative reporter Prokop is an effective audience surrogate, while the passionate, fragile and self-destructive Cooper grounds the story with heart and soul — a constant reminder of the human cost of the “war on terror.” The script is solid, the characterizations moving. If the film has a flaw, it’s in… Continue reading
EU officials furious as Washington says it wants extra data on all air passengers
by Ian Traynor in Brussels

This article appeared in the Guardian on Monday February 11 2008 on p1 of the
Top stories section.
The US administration is pressing the 27 governments of the European Union
to sign up for a range of new security measures for transatlantic travel, including
allowing armed guards on all flights from Europe to America by US airlines.
The demand to put armed air marshals on to the flights is part of a travel
clampdown by the Bush administration that officials in Brussels described as
“blackmail” and “troublesome”, and could see west Europeans
and Britons required to have US visas if their governments balk at Washington’s
According to a US document being circulated for signature in European capitals,
EU states would also need to supply personal data on all air passengers overflying
but not landing in the US in order to gain or retain visa-free travel to America,
senior EU officials said.
And within months the US department of homeland security is to impose a new
permit system for Europeans flying to the US, compelling all travellers to apply
online for permission to enter the country before booking or buying a ticket,
a procedure that will take several days.
The data from the US’s new electronic transport authorisation system is to
be combined with extensive personal passenger details already being provided
by EU countries to… Continue reading

New York lawmakers in Washington who have been persistently pressing the White
House for increased funding for healthcare programs for ailing 9/11 World Trade
Center workers were jolted last week when President George W. Bush’s proposed
budget slashed those programs by 77 percent.
Only last Wednesday, they pointed out, a White House spokesman had issued a
statement that the president’s 2009 budget would "reflect his continued
commitment" to WTC workers. In reality, the budget issued appropriated
a paltry $25 million, down from $108 million in the present spending plan.
"This dramatic and unwarranted cut flies in the face of common sense,
compassion and just plain fairness," Senator Charles Schumer declared as
he promised to "fight these cuts tooth and nail to ensure these heroes
receive the health care they need and clearly deserve".
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton stated she was "disappointed and saddened
to see that the president chose not to acknowledge the clear healthcare needs
of these heroes", and Congressmember Carolyn Maloney said it was "shocking
that the president would use his final budget to take an axe to the 9/11 healthcare
Maloney (D- Queens/Manhattan) noted: "Just a few weeks ago, the administration
canceled a program for 9/11 responders from around the country because they
said it lacked funding, and now they release a budget that doesn’t even ask
for the money they said they needed.
"The administration has failed in every single one of its budget proposals
to deliver adequate help… Continue reading
A forthcoming book by NYT reporter Philip Shenon — “The Commission: The Uncensored History of the 9/11 Investigation” — asserts that former 9/11 Commission executive director Philip Zelikow interfered with the 9/11 report.
According to the book, Zelikow had failed to inform the commission at the time he was hired that he was instrumental in helping Condoleezza Rice set up Bush’s National Security Council in 2001. Some panel staffers believe Zelikow stopped them from submitting a report depicting Rice’s performance prior to 9/11 as “amount[ing] to incompetence.”
Relying on the accounts of Max Holland, an author and blogger who has obtained a copy of the forthcoming book, ABC reports that Zelikow was holding private discussions with White House political adviser Karl Rove during the course of the 9/11 investigation:
In his book, Shenon also says that while working for the panel, Zelikow appears to have had private conversations with former White House political director Karl Rove, despite a ban on such communication, according to Holland. Shenon reports that Zelikow later ordered his assistant to stop keeping a log of his calls, although the commission’s general counsel overruled him, Holland wrote.
Zelikow flatly denied discussing the commission’s work with Rove. “I never discussed the 9/11 Commission with him, not at all. Period.”
After completing his work with the 9/11 Commission, Zelikow was hired by Condoleezza Rice as Counselor at the State Department. He resigned from that position in late 2006. In 1995, Rice and Zelikow co-authored a book entitled,… Continue reading
Iran showdown has echoes of faked Tonkin attack
January 11, 2008
A dramatic showdown at sea. Crossed communication signals. Apparently-hostile craft nearby. Sketchy intelligence leading to ratcheted up rhetoric.
The similarities between this week’s confrontation between US warships and Iranian speedboats and events off the coast of North Vietnam 44 years ago were too hard for many experts to miss, leading to the question: Is the Strait of Hormuz 2008′s Gulf of Tonkin?
On Aug. 2nd and 4th, 1964, the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy, patrolling off the North Vietnamese coast, intercepted signals indicating they were under attack. Within days, Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which paved the way to the escalation of the Vietnam War. However, as some intelligence agents suspected at the time, the Aug. 2nd attack took place after the USS Maddox fired first, according to a National Security Agency report released in 1995.
This week another NSA report surfaced, confirming suspicions that the Aug. 4th attack never happened.
The researcher who uncovered the most recent NSA assessment tells RAW STORY that the Strait of Hormuz confrontation, and the immediate saber-rattling from the Bush administration and its allies, demonstrates the extent to which officials must be wary about politicizing shaky intelligence in times of war.
“The parallels (between Tonkin and Hormuz) speak for themselves, but what they say is that even the most basic factual assumptions can be made erroneously [or] can prove to be false,” Steven Aftergood of the Federation of American Scientists, told Raw Story.…Continue reading
