WTC Environmental Organization

September 11 was a tragedy that has changed the course of history and the way we live. It was also an environmental disaster of epic proportions. Hundreds of tons of asbestos were pulverized and dispersed around Lower Manhattan and beyond. The tens of thousands of fluorescent lightbulbs each contained enough mercury to contaminate a quarter of a city block. The Trade Center’s 50,000 computers were each made with four to twelve pounds of lead. The smoke detectors contained radioactive americium 241.…

Program to monitor Ground Zero workers’ health

A program to monitor the health of thousands of federal workers who answered the call of 9/11 has “been lost for more than two years,” the New York Daily News reports. It “vanished during the bureaucratic shuffle creating the Department of Homeland Security” …

The forgotten and yet most numerous direct physical victims of September 11th are those who were exposed to the air contaminated by the dust clouds formed when the buildings fell.…

A Fallen Hero

Written By Jon Gold

In February 2005 , “Speakers at the national meeting of the American Association for Advancement of Science expressed concern Sunday that some scientists in key federal agencies are being ignored or even pressured to change study conclusions that don’t support policy positions.” Their concerns are well-founded. In June 2005, The New York Times reported that Philip A. Cooney, “removed or adjusted descriptions of climate research that government scientists and their supervisors, including some senior Bush administration officials, had already approved” so as to play down emissions’ links to Global Warming.…

See the dust clouds

The number of people with medical problems linked to the 9/11 attacks on New York has risen to at least 15,000.

The figure, put together for the BBC, counts those receiving treatment for problems related to breathing in dust.

Many of the victims say the government offered false reassurances that the Manhattan air was safe and are now pursuing a class-action lawsuit.

Twenty Things We Now Know Five Years After 9/11

By Bernard Weiner, Co-Editor The Crisis Papers

August 29, 2006

The imminent fifth anniversary of 9/11 provides the proper moment for a good, ol’-fashioned sum-up of the past half-decade under CheneyBush, especially because so much has happened in the past 12-months:

The Bush Administration’s Katrina debacle, Iraq being sucked deeper into the civil-war vortex, Afghanistan turning once again into a major war theater, more and more military leaders speaking out about the disaster that is CheneyBush foreign policy, the defection of so many moderate conservatives from their GOP home, the plummeting of Bush’s popularity to not much more than his fundamentalist base, the revelation that Bush&Co.…

Illness Persisting in 9/11 Workers, Big Study Finds

By Anthony DePalma
The New York Times
September 6, 2006

The largest health study yet of the thousands of workers who labored at ground zero shows that the impact of the rescue and recovery effort on their health has been more widespread and persistent than previously thought, and is likely to linger far into the future.

The study, released yesterday by doctors at Mount Sinai Medical Center, is expected to erase any lingering doubts about the connection between dust from the trade center and numerous diseases that the workers have reported suffering.…

Rice OK’d Claim of ‘Safe Air’ After 9/11

September 24, 2006 — Condoleezza Rice’s office gave final approval to the infamous Environmental Protection Agency press releases days after 9/11 claiming the air around Ground Zero was “safe to breathe,” internal documents show.

Now Secretary of State, Rice was then head of the National Security Council – “the final decision maker” on EPA statements about lower Manhattan air quality, the documents say.

Scientists and lawmakers have since deemed the air rife with toxins.…

It was October 6, 2004, three years after Ernie Vallebuona’s three-month stint as a rescue and recovery worker at ground zero in the wake of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and he was hunched over and trembling, racked by a pain like nothing he had experienced in his 40 years of sound health. He had just returned to his Rockland County home after finishing the midnight-to-8 a.m.…

New York Stories: 9/11 First Responders

Report from
“9/11 First Responders: Voices From The Pit”
Sunday, June 25th at Community Church

I’m not sure how David Miller found us, but he has been attending our Sunday events for at least 3 months. NY 911 Truth has been enriched by his presence. Between hearing of his experience as a first responder with his National Guard unit, reading the many recent articles about the plight of responders, and meeting several other responders at a conference sponsored by SUNY-New Paltz, we’ve had our eyes and hearts opened to a unique aspect of the 9/11 tragedy.…

Court Ruling May Stop 9/11 Air Quality Lawsuits

Apr 20, 2007

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK An appeals court ruling could spell trouble for New Yorkers
suing the Environmental Protection Agency and its former chief for saying that
sooty Lower Manhattan air was safe to breathe after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

A three judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declared this
week that EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman and other agency officials
can’t be held constitutionally liable for making rosy declarations about air
quality in the days following the World Trade Center’s destruction.…

Pivotal Moment in the Green Scare

Pivotal Moment in the Green Scare

Bill Rodgers died in a jail cell in Flagstaff, Arizona, fist raised above him, plastic bag over his head, of an apparent suicide, on the 2005 winter solstice. Two weeks before in Prescott, Bill’s baby, the Catalyst Infoshop had been raided by fifteen federal officers and he was taken away.

Bill was essentially accused of destroying corporate property. If he had been arrested for these crimes in, say, an EU country, I’m sure Bill would still be alive today.…

Whitman on hot seat over 9/11 aftermath

By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer
June 25, 2007

Whitman in the hot seatWASHINGTON
– Ex-EPA chief Christie Whitman was bombarded by boos and a host of accusations
Monday at a hearing into her assurances that it had been safe to breathe the
air around the fallen World Trade Center.

The confrontation between the former head of the Environmental Protection Agency
and her critics grew heated at times. Some members of the audience shouted in
anger, only to be gaveled down by Rep.…

Whitman’s Cover-Up an ‘Insult to Truth’

Editor’s Note:

Even after the truth has become obvious to anyone who is not a politician, former EPA head Christie Todd Whitman still cannot bring herself to admit that her words after 9/11 were appropriately taken to mean that the air was safe to breathe in and around Ground Zero.

Privately, you can be sure that she has admitted her lies to herself and whatever god she may claim.

With no apparent irony or respect for the actual people who are sick, Whitman explains her actions in a variety of ways, even by reaching for this unbelievable admission:

“Was it wrong to try to get the city back on its feet as quickly as possible in the safest way possible?

Fire Claims Lives of Two Firefighters at Ground Zero; Wall St. Journal Blames<br /> Community

by Jenna Orkin*
August 27, 2007

The tragic fire at the former Deutsche Bank building in Lower Manhattan nine
days ago which took the lives of two firefighters, Joseph Graffagnino, 33 and
Robert Beddia, 53, and which has already spawned two criminal investigations,
highlights problems about which the community of Lower Manhattan has been warning
for years.

The company hired to perform the demolition of the building whose chief claim
to fame, post-9/11, was that it had been contaminated with 150,000 times the
normal levels of asbestos among other toxic substances, (which have since been
reduced to a supposedly “safe” level) has “apparently never done
any work like it”
nor much of anything else since it was incorporated in

Ducking WTC Blame

Letter to the Editor of The Chief, 10/26/07:

Ducking WTC Blame

To the Editor:

The City of New York and Contractors of 9/11 have expressed interest in negotiating a total aggregate settlement with sick and dying first-responders who were exposed to toxic air at the World Trade Center. This settlement will offer a certain amount of money and the city and contractors will walk away without answering questions about their negligence and lies. The money will be divided between lawyers (40 percent) and the 9/11 afflicted litigants (60 percent).…
