Raw Story

A document declassified this week by the National Security Archive reveals that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) delivered a briefing to the Bush administration which directly contradicts former Vice President Dick Cheney’s claim that 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta visited an Iraqi intelligence official in Prague.

The document (PDF), dated Dec. 1, 2001 and delivered to the White House on the 8th, claims that Atta “did not travel to the Czech Republic on 31 May 2000,” and adds that “the individual who attempted to enter the Czech Republic on 31 May 2000… was not the Atta who attacked the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001.”

Despite this briefing, just days later on Dec.…

Why Louis Freeh Should Be Investigated For 9/11

by Kevin Ryan

In the summer of 2001, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Robert Wright, a counterterrorism expert from the Chicago office, made some startling claims about the Bureau in a written statement outlining the difficulties he had doing his job. Three months before 9/11, he wrote: “The FBI has proven for the past decade it cannot identify and prevent acts of terrorism against the United States and its citizens at home and abroad.…

9/11 Commission Deceived: An Unintentional Work of Fiction Based on Cheney’s Torture Program

Preface: This is not a partisan post. We have repeatedly documented that Obama is as bad or worse than the Bush administration.

In the run up to the Iraq war – and for several years thereafter – the program of torture carried out by the Bush administration was specifically specifically aimed at establishing a false justification for war. Dick Cheney is the guy who pushed for torture, pressured the Justice Department lawyers to write memos saying torture was legal, and made the pitch to Congress justifying torture.…

Kevin Ryan on the legitimate 9/11 suspects

Who are some of the legitimate 9/11 suspects?

Editor’s Note:
Recently we have been inundated with emails asking us who was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. The detailed background needed to be able to evaluate any list of potential 9/11 suspects requires a great deal of determination to obtain. We offer this interview of Kevin Ryan on The Corbett Report as a succinct answer to who the most probable, legitimate 9/11 suspects should be to focus on.…

Obama’s call for transparency remains unfulfilled

The Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) is the only Democratic party in the U.S., so far, that has a plank within its platform that calls for a new 9/11 investigation. This plank (or a similar one) has been included in the platform since 2008.

Rumor has it, however, that some of the 2014 CDP Platform Committee members want to remove it, believing that claims by 9/11 skeptics have been answered. Therefore, this document was written to inform these platform committee members that our claims have not been answered, and furthermore, President Obama’s call for an “Open and Transparent Government” has been thoroughly unfulfilled regarding the events of September 11, 2001.…

War Crimes and 9/11: Why Dick and Don Are Suspects

Originally published at by Kevin Ryan on 6/4/14

Richard Clarke, the former counterterrorism official, has recently come out suggesting that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld should be charged with war crimes. Unfortunately, media outlets reporting this story have failed to examine Clarke’s long relationship to Cheney and Rumsfeld and his record of having prevented the capture of Osama bin Laden. These omissions highlight that, although Cheney and Rumsfeld undoubtedly are guilty of post-9/11 war crimes, suspicions that they helped create the pretext for those crimes go unreported.…

Let’s Not Forget Duane Andrews and SAIC

Originally published at Dig Within by Kevin Ryan on 6/4/14

Both before and after 9/11, one private company had a greater impact on counterterrorism programs in the United States than any other. That company, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), also profited more from the events of 9/11 than any other. Its chief operating officer (COO), Duane Andrews, was a man who had expertise-level knowledge of the vulnerabilities that were exploited on 9/11. He also just happened to be a long-time, close colleague of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.…

Lawsuit against Bush Administration for war crimes

Witness Iraq has brought a lawsuit against key members of the Bush Administration: George W. Bush, Richard B. Cheney, Donald H. Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Paul Wolfowitz.

In Saleh v. Bush, plaintiff Sundus Shaker Saleh alleges that the Iraq War was a premeditated war against the Iraqi people, the planning of which started in 1998. The war was not conducted in self-defense, did not have the appropriate authorization by the United Nations, and under international law constituted a “crime of aggression” — a crime first set down at the Nuremberg Trials after World War II.…

The torture meted out by the CIA far exceeds the conventional understanding of waterboarding

Originally published at The Telegraph by by Peter Foster on 9/7/14

Exclusive: As the US Senate prepares to release a report documenting US torture programme after 9/11, Telegraph reveals new details about the scope of CIA excesses

The CIA brought top al-Qaeda suspects close “to the point of death” by drowning them in water-filled baths during interrogation sessions in the years that followed the September 11 attacks, a security source has told The Telegraph.

The description of the torture meted out to at least two leading al-Qaeda suspects, including the alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, far exceeds the conventional understanding of waterboarding, or “simulated drowning” so far admitted by the CIA.…

Since 9/11, we’ve lost our common sense and compassion

Originally published at the Lexington-Herald Reader by Paul Prather on 12/27/14

Fifty years from now, when a history of the 9/11 attacks can be written from a suitable distance, it probably will be observed that the chief damage done to this nation wasn’t the destruction of landmark buildings or even the loss of nearly 3,000 lives, but the further searing of our collective conscience.

We devolved from — in our own opinions, at least — the most civilized country on Earth, the chief guardians of human rights, to medieval torturers.…

Fran Shure: A Spiritual Issue Not To Be Silent About 9/11

Originally published at The Profile by Susan Dugan, Jan. 2015 Issue

Right after 9/11, I remember talking to my women’s group and saying I just don’t think this could have happened without someone knowing about it and allowing it to,” says Fran Shure. “It was totally intuitive, because I knew nothing. And that was received with a lot of censoring remarks. I just looked at them and said, you know, I have the right to think the unthinkable and I’m going to look into this.…

FOIA Brings Release of Bush Administration 9/11 Photos

Originally published at The Boston Globe by Jaclyn Reiss and Doug Most on 7/25/15

More than 350 never-before-seen photographs of then-President George W. Bush and then-Vice President Dick Cheney on Sept. 11, 2001, have been released after a Boston-based documentary producer’s Freedom of Information (FOIA) request.

The photos show officials’ grim reactions as the events of 9/11 unfolded, and include meetings in the president’s Emergency Operations Center, as well as Cheney traveling to Camp David.

The photos came as part of a FOIA request from Colette Neirouz Hanna, coordinating producer for Kirk Documentary Group, which makes films for PBS’s “Frontline.”

In an email Friday night, Hanna said it was important for the public to see the photographs.…

Dick Cheney Never Disappoints

Originally published at LobeLog by Jim Lobe on 8/29/15

Previewing his September 8 address on the Iran deal to (who else?) the American Enterprise Institute, Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz have published a lengthy op-ed (“Restoring American Exceptionalism”) in Saturday’s print edition of The Wall Street Journal. It’s predictably over the top, apocalyptic, and entirely Manichean in word and spirit. Appeasement, Chamberlain, Hitler, Hiroshima, Nagasakiit’s all there. It will no doubt be required reading for speechwriters of all of the Republican presidential candidates.…
