a September 2003 article for The Guardian newspaper, Michael Meacher, who served
as Tony Blair’s environment minister from May 1997 to June 2003, shocked the
establishment by calling the global war on terrorism “bogus.” Even
more controversially, he implied that the U.S. government either allowed 9/11
to happen, or played some role in the destruction wrought that day. Besides

Post-9/11 Memo Indicates View Around Constitution
Thursday, April 3, 2008
For at least 16 months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the Bush administration
argued that the Constitution’s protection against unreasonable searches and
seizures on U.S. soil did not apply to its efforts to protect against terrorism.
That view was expressed in a secret Justice Department legal memo dated Oct.
23, 2001. The administration stressed yesterday that it now disavows that view.
The October 2001 memo was written at the White House’s request by John Yoo,
then the deputy assistant attorney general, and addressed to Alberto R. Gonzales,
then the White House counsel. The37-page memo has not been released.
Its existence was disclosed Tuesday in a footnote of a separate secret Justice
Department memo, dated March 14, 2003, that discussed the legality of various
interrogation techniques. It was released by the Pentagon in response to an
ACLU Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
“Our office recently concluded that the Fourth Amendment had no application
to domestic military operations,” the footnote in that memo states, referring
to a document titled “Authority for Use of Military Force to Combat Terrorist
Activities Within the United States.”
Exactly what domestic military action was covered by the October memo is unclear.

2003 Justice Department memo justifies torture, presidential dictatorship
By Joe Kay
4 April 2008
On Tuesday, the Defense Department released a 2003 memo asserting the right
of the US president to order the military to torture prisoners.
The memo is signed by then-Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Yoo and is
dated March 14, 2003, one week before the launch of the Iraq war.…
History Commons Projects, Update on April 2, 2008
Significant new material was added to three projects this week: 9/11, Loss of Civil Liberties, and Watergate.
The entries added to the 9/11 Timeline range from the 9/11 Commission and attempts to get it to come down in favor of an Iraq-al-Qaeda link, an al-Qaeda cell in Italy that was closely monitored by the authorities, and the 9/11 hijackers, who were profiled as high-risk potential banking clients due to their terrorism links. There is also more on BCCI, terrorism finance in general, and two CIA employees — bin Laden unit chief Rich B and contractor Billy Waugh. In addition, there is a new category dealing with internal US security after 9/11.
The Loss of Civil Liberties Timeline takes a look at the recent passport file breaches of presidential candidates, as well as the Protect America and Military Commissions Acts, and constitutional amphibian Dick Cheney.
There are a lot more entries in the Watergate Timeline covering the Committee to Re-elect the President, the Plumbers, and Nixon suggesting the IRS retaliate against Jews who donate money to the Democratic Party.
The Decision to Invade Iraq Timeline has more about the invasion being a project to enhance US dominance of the world.
Finally, the A. Q. Khan Timeline points out that Jimmy Carter gave Pakistan’s nuclear program the ‘green light.’
The History Commons’ fundraising goal has still not been met and any donations will be gratefully received.…Continue reading

The US Congress, the US media, the American people, and the United Nations, are looking the other way as Cheney prepares his attack on Iran.
If only America had an independent media and an opposition party. If there were a shred of integrity left in American political life, perhaps a third act of naked aggression–a third war crime under the Nuremberg standard–by the Bush Regime could be prevented.
On March 30, the Russian News & Information Agency, Novosti, cited “a high-ranking security source: “The latest military intelligence data point to heightened US military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran.”
According to Novosti, Russian Colonel General Leonid Ivashov said “that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran’s military infrastructure in the near future.”
The chief of Russia’s general staff, Yuri Baluyevsky, said last November that Russia was beefing up its military in response to US aggression, but that the Russian military is not “obliged to defend the world from the evil Americans.”
On March 29, OpEdNews cited a report by the Saudi Arabian newspaper Okaz, which was picked up by the German news service, DPA. The Saudi newspaper reported on March 22, the day following Cheney’s visit with the kingdom’s rulers, that the Saudi Shura Council is preparing “national plans to deal with any sudden nuclear and radioactive hazards that may affect the kingdom following experts’ warnings of possible attacks on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactors.”… Continue reading
Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita of the Democratic Party of Japan, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan
VIDEO: Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita Speaks at 9/11 Truth Conference in Sydney (27 Mins)
Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita of the Democratic Party of Japan, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan (national legislature), spoke at the 9/11 Truth conference in Sydney today.
Mr Fujita is the single most important person to step forward to ask hard questions about 9/11 and the “War on Terror” this year.
Although the international conference is taking place in the centre of Sydney a stone’s throw away from Sydney parliamentarians, not a single Australian MP is in attendance at this important event.
Organizers of the conference had hoped that his attendance may encourage Australian Parliamentarians to examine the provably false official 9/11 conspiracy theory. He will be in attendance on the 15th (Sat) and 16th (Sun) and will make a short address on both days.
Australian media also failed to show up to the conference, despite excellent facilities and the importance of this event to Australians who are embroiled in Afghanistan and Iraq and currently conducting “cyber war games” with the Americans.
Hundreds of Australian citizens and international visitors are gathering over the weekend for the conference which is open to all and taking place at the prestigious Tattersall Club at 181 Elizabeth Street in Central Sydney, having been opened by a traditional Australian indigenous welcome speech… Continue reading
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Mr. Yukihisa Fujita, a Member of the Japanese Parliament representing the Democratic Party, is to attend the Sydney Truth Now Conference. He is, in the organizing committee’s opinion, the single most important person to step forward to ask the hard questions about 9/11 and the “War on Terror” this year. We hope that his attendance may encourage Australian Parliamentarians to examine the provably false official 9/11 conspiracy theory! He will be in attendance on the 15th (Sat) and 16th (Sun) only and will make a short address on both days.
In other news:
It is with great sadness that I must finally announce that Dr Steven Jones will not be attending this year’s conference due to a family illness, but I’m glad to report he is already preparing for next year! I have taken great pleasure in talking many times with Dr Jones over the last few months and have had the great privilege of his advice! I am now coming to realize, especially during recent months, that many of us will never achieve our goals without the support of the ones that love us most, our families. Dr Jones has made a choice to care for the foundations of what has made him such a noble and courageous man! We the Sydney Committee applaud that decision!
He will still be providing a short video presentation to the conference and between locals Dr Frank Legge (who has been working closely with Dr Jones) and Dr David Leifer of the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, all Dr Jones’s material will be covered at the Sydney Conference.…Continue reading

In Mansfield, CT, the town where I grew up, there were no police. Oh, there was a resident State Police officer with a big cruiser, but mainly, his job was patrolling the stretch of four-lane highway that ran north of us between Hartford and Boston. The University of Connecticut, a sprawling ag school at the time, had a few police, but their job was limited to patrolling the campus. If something happened, like a kid stealing candy from Phil’s, the local Five and Ten, or if there was some kind of domestic dispute, it fell to the local town constable—an elected position—to handle.
Up in the town of Marlboro, VT, population 1000, the town constable may have a new job. If President George W. Bush, or Vice President Dick Cheney should happen to stop by there, perhaps to pick up some freshly made maple syrup or maple sugar candy, he’d have to arrest them. Last night, the citizens of Marlboro voted in their annual town meeting to indict both men for war crimes, obstruction of justice and perjury. The vote was 43-25, with three abstentions.
Residents of nearby Brattleboro, population 12,000, did the same, voting 2012-1795.
It might be a challenge for the local constabulary, given the gaggle of stone-faced, ear-wired, Secret Service agents in their dark sunshades who encircle and protect the president and his regent whenever the two suspects travel out of the secure confines of the White House and Executive Office… Continue reading
Description at DN!:
Former Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney Seeks Presidency as Green Party Nominee
Former Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is now seeking the presidency as a Green Party hopeful. McKinney was the first African American woman elected to Congress in Georgia. She is among the most outspoken critics of the
Bush administration and one of her her last measures in office was to introduce a bill for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. She joins to talk about her new campaign and why she left the Democratic Party after more than a decade in public office.
But McKinney’s history of opposing war predates this Bush administration. In 1991 she spoke out against the Persian Gulf war in the Georgia House of Representatives. But McKinney left the Democratic Party late last year–after serving six terms in Congress. She said the Democrats had become “no different than their Republican counterparts.” Today she hopes to be the Green Party nominee for President.

Testimony in the Japanese parliament, broadcast live on Japanese television in January 2008, challenged the premise and validity of the Global War on Terror. Parliament member Yukihisa Fujita insisted that an investigation be conducted into the war’s origin: the events of 9/11.
In a parliament Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee session held to debate the ethics of renewing Japan’s “anti-terror law,” which commits Japan to providing logistical support for coalition forces operating in Afghanistan, Fujita opened the session by stating, “I would like to talk about the origin of this war on terrorism, which was the attacks of 9/11, . . . When discussing these anti-terror laws we should ask ourselves, what was 9/11? And what is terrorism?”
Fujita pointed out that, “So far the only thing the government has said is that we think it was caused by al-Qaeda because President Bush told us so.
We have not seen any real proof that it was al-Qaeda.” He reminded parliament that twenty-four Japanese citizens were killed on 9/11, yet the mandate of a
criminal investigation by the Japanese government never followed. “This is a crime so surely an investigation needs to be carried out,” said Fujita
(Censored 2008, #16).
Fujita went on extensively to ask “about the suspicious information being uncovered and the doubts people worldwide are having about… Continue reading

01/04/08 “ICH ” — — What was the greatest failure of 2007? President Bush’s “surge” in Iraq? The decline in the value of the US dollar? Subprime mortgages? No. The greatest failure of 2007 was the newly sworn in Democratic Congress.
The American people’s attempt in November 2006 to rein in a rogue government, which has committed the US to costly military adventures while running roughshod over the US Constitution, failed. Replacing Republicans with Democrats in the House and Senate has made no difference.
The assault on the US Constitution by the Democratic Party is as determined as the assault by the Republicans. On October 23, 2007, the House passed a bill sponsored by California Democratic congresswoman Jane Harman, chairwoman of a Homeland Security subcommittee, that overturns the constitutionally guaranteed rights to free expression, association, and assembly.
The bill passed the House on a vote of 404-6. In the Senate the bill is sponsored by Maine Republican Susan Collins and apparently faces no meaningful opposition.
Harman’s bill is called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act. When HR 1955 becomes law, it will create a commission tasked with identifying extremist people, groups, and ideas. The commission will hold hearings around the country, taking testimony and compiling a list of dangerous people and beliefs. The bill will, in short, create massive terrorism in the United States. But the perpetrators of terrorism will not be Muslim terrorists; they will be government agents and fellow citizens.
We are beginning to see who will be the inmates of the detention centers being built in the US by Halliburton under government contract.…Continue reading
You wouldn’t know it if you just watch TV news or read the corporate press,
but this past Tuesday, something remarkable happened. Despite the pig-headed
opposition of the Democratic Party’s top congressional leadership, a majority
of the House, including three Republicans, voted to send Dennis Kucinich’s long
sidelined Cheney impeachment bill (H Res 333) to the Judiciary Committee for
The vote was 218 to 194.
Now the behind-the-scenes partisan maneuvering that preceded that vote was
arcane indeed, with Kucinich first exercising a member’s privilege motion to
present his stymied impeachment bill to the full House, only to have Speaker
Nancy Pelosi arrange for a colleague (Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-MD) to
offer a motion to table it. The Republicans, anxious to embarrass the Speaker,
threw a wrench into that plan, though, by voting as a bloc to oppose tabling.
Since Kucinich already has 22 co-sponsors for his bill, it was clear that the
tabling gambit would fail. As soon as that became apparent, rank-and-file Democrats,
unwilling to be seen by their constituents as defending Cheney, rushed to change
their votes to opposing the tabling motion. In the end, tabling failed by 242
to 170 with 77 Democrats supporting a pleasantly surprised Kucinich.
To avoid a floor debate on the merits of impeaching the eminently impeachable
Vice President Cheney, Pelosi and her allies then moved to send Kucinich’s bill
directly to the Judiciary Committee. They were joined by three Republicans,
including maverick Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-TX).

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced he would move to force a vote next week on his resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.
“The momentum is building for impeachment,” Kucinich said in a statement on his Web site. “Millions of citizens across the nation are demanding Congress rein in the Vice President’s abuse of power.
Kucinich said he plans to introduce a privileged resolution, which would have priority for a House floor vote, on Nov. 6. A vote on the measure would be required within two days.
Observers expect a motion to table Kucinich’s resolution, which has 21 Democratic co-sponsors. It is almost certain that such a move to kill the resolution would be successful, but activists are urging members of Congress to support Kucinich’s move.
“We need you to ask your representative to vote No on tabling, Yes on giving impeachment a chance,” wrote David Swanson on the pro-impeachment Website AfterDowningStreet.org. “Those who vote Yes to table cannot use the excuse that ‘We don’t have the votes,’ since others will at that same instant with exactly the same exertion be voting No. Please scroll down to contact Congress and the media right away!”
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has long said that impeachment was “off the table” and Kucinich has had little success spurring legislative action on his resolutions, despite the growing number of lawmakers who have signed on as co-sponsors since it was introduced this spring.
Kucinich’s full statement… Continue reading
Cheney Determined To Strike In US With WMD This Summer
Only Impeachment, Removal or General Strike Can Stop Him
By Webster G. Tarpley 7-21-7
“The greatest threat now is ‘a 9/11′ occurring with a group of terrorists armed not with airline tickets and box cutters, but with a nuclear weapon in the middle of one of our own cities.” — Dick Cheney on Face the Nation, CBS, April 15, 2007
A few days ago, a group of lawyers from western Massachusetts met with the local congressman, Democrat John Olver. Their request was that Olver take part in the urgent effort to impeach Bush and Cheney. Olver responded by saying that he had no intention of doing anything to support impeachment. He went further, offering the information that the United States would soon attack Iran, and that these hostilities would be followed by the imposition of a martial law regime here.
According to reports in the British press, the Cheney war party has gained the upper hand in the secret councils of the Bush White House, pushing aside the purported hesitations of Miss Rice, Secretary Gates, and the NATO allies to chart a direct course towards war with Iran:
‘The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months, the Guardian has learned. The shift follows an internal review involving the White House, the Pentagon and the state department over the last month. Although… Continue reading

I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called “Face” of the American anti-war movement. Especially since I renounced any tie I have remaining with the Democratic Party, I have been further trashed on such “liberal blogs” as the Democratic Underground. Being called an “attention whore” and being told “good riddance” are some of the more milder rebukes.
I have come to some heartbreaking conclusions this Memorial Day Morning. These are not spur of the moment reflections, but things I have been meditating on for about a year now. The conclusions that I have slowly and very reluctantly come to are very heartbreaking to me.
The first conclusion is that I was the darling of the so-called left as long as I limited my protests to George Bush and the Republican Party. Of course, I was slandered and libeled by the right as a “tool” of the Democratic Party. This label was to marginalize me and my message. How could a woman have an original thought, or be working outside of our “two-party” system?
However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the “left” started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of “right or left”, but “right and wrong.”
I am deemed a radical because I believe that partisan politics should be left to the wayside when hundreds of thousands of people are dying for a war based on lies that is supported by Democrats and Republican alike.…Continue reading

On Election Day 2006, the American people will almost certainly vote to give the Democratic Party one or both houses of Congress.
We will vote to restore at least some of the checks and balances written into the Constitution of the United States. We will vote to end the reign of terror and error imposed on the nation and world since the stolen election of 2000. State by state, governorships and legislatures should return to the opposition party.
True to form, the corporate media is already starting to tell us that the polls are starting to slip back to the Republicans. This is the classic precursor to a coming fix.
In fact, all the instincts of credible students of American politics, indicate a massive shift away from the GOP. Anyone familiar with the history of the American electorate can be reasonably certain that the issues of war, deficits, economy, environment, scandal, sexual imposition and more will overwhelmingly favor a traditional rejection of the party in power, and then some.
But in 2006, the party in power has installed a nationwide system of election theft. And the outcome of tomorrow’s election may depend on the ability of the grassroots American citizenry to overcome this infernal machine.
The GOP engine of vote theft is built primarily on two pillars:
First is the massive disenfranchisement of mostly urban Democrats, including millions of people of color. Second is the simultaneous inflation of mostly rural and suburban Republican votes, including the mythological influx of “last-minute evangelicals” who may well exist primarily in the memory cards of rigged electronic machines.…Continue reading
- Re Local Calm amid the ‘Path to 9/11′ Uproar
By W. David Kubiak
September 9, 2006
This last week 911truth.org has received many emails and phone calls asking why we are not at the frontlines of the protests against ABC’s fictitious Clinton smear, The Path to 9/11. I don’t pretend to speak for the organization, but having been close to the heart of this debate I’d like to offer a few answers of my own.
The bad answer is schadenfreude.
Many of us are in fact rather ironically enjoying the uproar as Democratic Party defenders of the 5-year cover-up are now finding their own ox gored. You will notice that most of the ruckus is not about 9/11 truth at all, but whose political mythology will prevail.
Once the GOP Rove clones recognized how easily they and their corporate media pals could sell the 9/11 Commission fantasy to protect their ass and defend their assaults on international law and the Constitution, what on earth could stop them from using that reality-fabricating power offensively to destroy a few measly Democrats?
Betrayals among criminal cliques are usually conducted at the point of a gun. Our ruling corporate parties seem to prefer media assassinations to get the same job done. Once the Democrats bought into the 9/11 lies and actually helped confect and sell the official story, they stepped over to the dark side where the strictures of truth, law and decency no longer are enforced. The Path to 9/11 mêlée is… Continue reading
Will the Democrats Be Ready for Rove’s 2006 October Fright Fest?
August 24, 2006
Everyone knows it’s coming.
Rove doesn’t deviate from his playbook; and it’s his third time around with this one.
So what’s going to the terrorist fright just before the election? Will Osama be taken out of deep freeze? Will a videotape suddenly be “found” in which Osama declares that he wants a Democratic Congress? Will a terrorist cell be broken up the week before the election, allegedly plotting to fly planes into 12 American cities and bomb the Super Bowl with Weapons of Mass Destruction that Saddam gave them from his cell in Iraq?
Who knows exactly what it will be, but we know it will be some extraordinary fright fest.
The only fuel the GOP has left to run on is fear, otherwise their car will sputter to a stop on a country road with no gasoline station in sight.
So the Dems know they are going to get another round of terrorist scares – and this one is going to be quite imaginative, you can be sure.
The question is: Who, if anyone, in the Democratic Party is thinking how to pre-empt the upcoming Rovian plan to terrorize America into voting Republican (for the third campaign cycle of voting by fear)?
Because if we go through another election where the Dems act all shocked when Rove pulls the same bogeyman stunt all over again, the Dems will lose.
Have they learned by now that the Busheviks will do anything, even if it jeopardizes national security, to play the terror card?…Continue reading
