Dear Peace & Justice Organizers,
There are many ways to promote peace & justice in our world, but when we face an immediate conflict, indeed a promised “war without end,” it first helps to step back and look at how it all began. Our current “War on (some) Terror” was birthed, if not conceived, on September 11, 2001. That day was a terrible funeral pyre for many, but a golden opportunity for some.
Only a year before, the Project for a New American Century, a think tank for the neocon crowd that now controls the White House and the Pentagon, published a martial wish list entitled “Rebuilding America’s Defenses.” Their report outlined our “urgent need” to inflate defense spending, control Mideast oil, deploy exotic new weapons, and reorganize our forces to fight and win several simultaneous wars. Their stated goal was full spectrum global dominance, a “Pax Americana,” but they grudged that such a transformation would take forever “absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor.”
Consider then all the ignored warnings, quashed investigations and missing air defenses that preceded 9/11 and gave them this golden opportunity. And post-9/11 consider Condi Rice’s chilling remarks: “Now, we have an opportunity and an obligation to move forward together. Bold and comprehensive changes are sometimes only possible in the wake of catastrophic events… Just as World War II led to a fundamental reorganization of our national defense structure, so has September 11th made possible sweeping changes in the ways we… Continue reading

Phoenix 9/11 Truth Activist to Start Hunger Strike at McCain’s Office: Memorial Day, 5:00PM, May 26, 2008 at the office of Senator John McCain, 5353 N. 16th St., Phoenix, AZ

Phoenix, AZ, May 21, 2008 – In an effort to bring national attention to the 9/11 truth issue, Phoenix activist, Blair Gadsby, a professor of Religious Studies, plans to start a hunger strike on Memorial Day, at the Phoenix office of Senator John McCain. Gadsby is putting the spotlight on McCain because of McCain’s avowed support for the official account of 9/11. McCain is the author of the foreword to the 2006 Popular Mechanics book, Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can’t Stand Up to the Facts.
Gadsby, an Arizonan who is represented by McCain, stated for the record, “I believe Mr. McCain is a man of deep integrity. He has stood up to corporate influence in campaigns and to the very powerful Military Industrial Complex in the past, and he has a record of being a maverick. That’s why I’ve chosen to offer him this opportunity to face the issues head-on publicly. He may be one of the very, very few who have the integrity and stature to keep the military loyal and find the broad-based political support to bring about a change in our great country. But today, he is in a perilous position. By writing the Foreword to the official cover-up story, he has sided with the… Continue reading
AZ Senator Karen Johnson: “Blair has a lot of courage and I’m hoping that what he does here will be very effective and that it will bring the attention to Senator McCain that is needed, so that he will take another look at this and really understand that there are a lot more questions than answers out there. and that The folks that lost their loved ones in this horrible tragedy deserve to have answers. That’s what we need to do, is find these answers for them.”
Hungry for Truth – Day 7
Braving temperatures reaching 104 degrees and denying himself food, one man’s epic struggle to find the truth about 9/11 has resulted in a outpouring of support across the United States and around the world. Blair Gadsby has completed day 7 of his first ever Hunger Strike for 9/11 truth. In seven days Gadsby has been interviewed six times by the alternative media while being largely ignored by the MSM. No surprise there. On day seven a large rally was held to cheer Blair on as he enters week two. Fifty plus people showed up at various times throughout the evening to give Blair their support. During an internet radio interview conducted by Cosmos of truthaction.org, Blair received a call from Sydney, Australia. This proves that news of Blair’s hunger strike is circling the globe and hopefully his efforts will inspire others to stand up and demand a new investigation. Blair also received well wishes and a… Continue reading

The Silence of the Antiwar Movement is Deafening
Cindy Sheehan’s Lonely Vigil in Obamaland
By JOHN V. WALSH August 26, 2009 Counterpunch.com
A funny thing has happened on Cindy Sheehan’s long road from Crawford, Texas, to Martha’s Vineyard. Many of those who claim to lead the peace movement and who so volubly praised her actions in Crawford, TX, are not to be seen. Nor heard. The silence in fact is deafening, or as Cindy put it in an email to this writer, “crashingly deafening.” Where are the email appeals to join Cindy from The Nation or from AFSC or Peace Action or “Progressive” Democrats of America (PDA) or even Code Pink? Or United for Peace and Justice. (No wonder UFPJ is essentially closing shop, bereft of most of their contributions and shriveling up following the thinly veiled protest behind the “retirement” of Leslie Cagan.) And what about MoveOn although it was long ago thoroughly discredited as principled opponents of war or principled in any way shape or form except slavish loyalty to the “other” War Party. And of course sundry “socialist” organizations are also missing in action since their particular dogma will not be front and center. These worthies and many others have vanished into the fog of Obama’s wars.
Just to be sure, this writer contacted several of the “leaders” of the “official” peace movement in the Boston area — AFSC, Peace Action, Green Party of MA (aka Green Rainbow Party) and some others. Not so much as the courtesy of a reply resulted from this effort – although the GRP at least posted a notice of the action.…Continue reading

Peter Dale Scott, with Michael Berger and Janice Matthews
In the last few days Glenn Beck and the Washington Times have forced Van Jones to resign as environmentalist “green jobs” adviser to the White House. His principal offense: having allegedly signed a 2004 Statement from 911Truth.org calling for a new investigation of the events of 9/11.(Van Jones has subsequently denied ever signing or supporting the 2004 Statement and his name has been removed from the list of signatories.)
This is a moment of truth for all who want America to be an open society. As the Los Angeles Times reported on September 8, “Other conservatives, smelling blood in the water, are sharpening their knives.” Why should they not? The White House has just capitulated to a dishonest attack claiming that Jones “thinks the Bush administration blew up the World Trade Centers and covered it up.” You can check Beck”s capacity for accuracy by comparing this claim to the relevant call in the Statement itself: “for immediate public attention to unanswered questions that suggest that people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”
Supporting Beck are authors like Charles Krauthammer, arguing that “truthers” — those of us who signed the 911truth statement — are creating “a hallucinatory alternative reality in the service of a fathomless malice.”
In the wake of these attacks, three of the original hundred signers — including the environmentalist Paul Hawken and Jodie Evans… Continue reading
