are writing you to let you know that as of today, we, of the NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative
Campaign has collected nearly 25,000 signatures towards our goal of 30,000!! Check
out the photo below! It’s a powerful statement is it not? And yet, we are in the
proverbial ninth inning as we need to have the full amount soon so as to access
the NYC elections bureaucracy and place the call for a new investigation of 9/11
on the November 2008 NYC ballot. Ideally, we want 40,000 to have a comfortable
margin. With some PR that is happening we may just get the public response necessary
to achieve this goal. We are sure you are as excited as we are at the prospect
of achieving on our goal, namely, to create the conditions for a new and genuine
investigation of 9/11.
It is important to recognize that this effort is supported by many of the families
of victims of 9/11. Many prominent Americans have also voiced their support. These
include former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, Tony award winning actress Christine
Ebersole, Dallas Cowboy football player Mark Stepnowski, AZ state senator Karen
Johnson, consumer advocate Ralph Nader, Green Party presidential candidate and
former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, actor Ed Asner, former FBI field agent
Colleen Rowley, retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern, retired NSA analyst Wayne Madsen,
former senators Mike Gravel and Lincoln Chafee, and more.
Now we need every one of you to call your friends and associates… Continue reading

A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.
Suskind writes in “The Way of the World,” to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery — adamantly denied by the White House — was designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.
The author also claims that the Bush administration had information from a top Iraqi intelligence official “that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq — intelligence they received in plenty of time to stop an invasion.”
The letter’s existence has been reported before, and it had been written about as if it were genuine. It was passed in Baghdad to a reporter for The (London) Sunday Telegraph who wrote about it on the front page of Dec. 14, 2003, under the headline, “Terrorist behind September 11 strike ‘was trained by Saddam.’”
The Telegraph story by Con Coughlin (which, coincidentally, ran the day Hussein was captured in his “spider hole”) was touted in the U.S. media by supporters of the war, and he was interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“Over the next few days, the Habbush letter continued to be featured prominently in the United States and across the globe,” Suskind writes. “Fox’s Bill O’Reilly trumpeted the story Sunday night on ‘The O’Reilly Factor,’ talking breathlessly about details of the story and exhorting, ‘Now, if this is true, that blows the lid off al Qaeda–Saddam.’”
According to Suskind, the administration had been in contact with the director of the Iraqi intelligence service in the last years of Hussein’s regime, Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti.…Continue reading

Abu Khabab al-Masri ‘died’ in January 2006 and again on Monday. Once again, the ‘mainstream’ media announces the re-killing of another ‘key al-Qaeda operative’ by a ‘CIA-operated unpiloted drone!’ These top al-Qaeda operatives – and their subsequent deaths – are more bountiful than poppy fields in Afghanistan or oil smuggling routes in Iraq.
The Financial Times reports:
Al-Qaeda expert killed by CIA 30 July 2008 Pakistan intelligence officials yesterday confirmed a key al-Qaeda [al-CIAduh] expert on chemical and biological weapons was killed in an attack by a CIA-operated unpiloted drone, late on Sunday. Egyptian-born Midhat Mursi al-Sayid Umar, who was also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri, was one of six Arab men who were killed in a remote region along the Afghan border, according to an intelligence official. The US had offered a $5m (€3.19m, £2.5m) reward for his capture. Western diplomats said it would be a boost to morale in the Bush administration, struggling with mounting troop casualties in Afghanistan and a revival of militant attacks in Iraq.
CBS News reports:
Officials: Al Qaeda’s Mad Scientist Killed –29 Jul 2008 — CIA Drone Targeted Chemical Weapons Expert Abu Khabab Al-Masri On Afghanistan-Pakistan Border One of al Qaeda’s top chemical and biological weapons experts was killed in an air strike by a CIA pilotless drone in a remote Pakistani border region, senior Pakistani intelligence officials told CBS News Tuesday morning. Most Americans have a rough idea what the term “military-industrial complex” means when they come across it in a newspaper or hear a politician mention it. President Dwight D. Eisenhower introduced the idea to the public in his farewell address of January 17, 1961. “Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peacetime,” he said, “or indeed by the fighting men of World War II and Korea We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions We must not fail to comprehend its grave implications We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex.”
Although Eisenhower’s reference to the military-industrial complex is, by now, well-known, his warning against its “unwarranted influence” has, I believe, largely been ignored. Since 1961, there has been too little serious study of, or discussion of, the origins of the military-industrial complex, how it has changed over time, how governmental secrecy has hidden it from oversight by members of Congress or attentive citizens, and how it degrades our Constitutional structure of checks and balances.
From its origins in the early 1940s, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was building up his “arsenal of democracy,” down to the present moment, public opinion has usually assumed that it involved more or less equitable relations — often termed a “partnership” — between the high command and civilian overlords of the United States military and… Continue reading
This week Visibility 9-11 welcomes former diplomat from the State Department’s
Foreign Service J. Michael Springmann. Mr. Springmann served postings in Germany,
India, Saudi Arabia, and the Bureau of Intelligence and Research in Washington
D.C. He is a published author of several articles on national security themes,
and is an attorney in private practice in Washington D.C.
Michael has attended several 9/11 Conferences over the years, most notably,
the 9/11 Omission hearings on 9/9/2004 chaired by former Representative and
current Green Party candidate for President, Cynthia McKinney, as well as the
recent conference in Keene, NH.
Included in this important interview is a discussion regarding a new article
by Mr. Springmann titled, THE
MISTAKE DEPARTMENT: One Example of Why American Foreign Policy is a Disaster
(reprinted below) that discusses the American Consulate General at Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia, and it’s relationship to 15 of the 19 alleged September 11th hijackers.
In it, he says that "the Jeddah Consulate was not a State Department post
but an intelligence services operation", "the Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA) routinely demanded (and got) visas for sleazy characters with no
ties to either their home country or Saudi Arabia," and "these vile
people were terrorists recruited by U.S. intelligence officers along with Osama
bin Laden, then a CIA asset."

Consortiumnews Editor’s Note: As his presidency nears its end, George
W. Bush will be faced with a tough choice: either run the risk, along with
many of his top aides, of future prosecution for a variety of crimes from
the “war on terror” — or fashion a mass pardon for all those
In this guest essay, former Democratic congressional aide Brent Budowsky
predicts that Bush will take the latter course, even outdoing his father’s
lame-duck Iran-Contra pardons in 1992:
Before leaving office George W. Bush will issue a mass pardon, the largest
collection of presidential pardons in American history.
Bush will pardon himself, Vice President Cheney, and a long list of officials
involved in torture, eavesdropping, destruction of evidence, the CIA leak case,
and a range of other potential crimes.
As George Bush signs the pardons and boards the helicopter to depart Washington
as his presidency finally ends, even then he and those pardoned will worry about
the statute of limitations.
There is an important point to this, often not recognized in official Washington
during the Bush years: When the unthinkable became a way of life, acts were
committed that defied constitutional and legal principles in ways never done
by an American president.
Torture alone violates international law, domestic law, criminal statutes,
and American principles that date back to George Washington.
Eavesdropping without court order violates a statute, FISA, that includes severe
criminal penalties. If the courts ultimately conclude that these laws… Continue reading

Kucinich, Barr, Bugliosi among those testifying
The House Judiciary Committee has released a witness list for its hearing to
examine “the imperial presidency” of George W. Bush.
Testifying Friday morning will be Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who has introduced
several resolutions calling for President Bush’s and Vice President Dick Cheney’s
impeachment; former Rep. Bob Barr, the Libertarian presidential candidate who
led the charge to impeach Bill Clinton in 1998; Vincent Bugliosi, author of
the just-released book The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder; and 10
other current and former members of Congress, constitutional experts and human
The hearing, which was announced last week, seems to be the one Judiciary Chairman
John Conyers promised to Kucinich after he introduced his second impeachment
resolution aimed at Bush earlier this month. Any action on Kucinich’s articles
of impeachment still seems unlikely, but the Ohio Democrat has previously said
he just wants to be able to present his case.
Late Thursday afternoon, the committee released the full witness list, broken
down into two panels.
The Honorable Dennis Kucinich, Representative from Ohio
The Honorable Maurice Hinchey, Representative from New York
The Honorable Walter Jones, Representative from North Carolina

Wide-ranging conspiracies do take place, whether you or I, or Charlie Brooker,
are inclined to believe it or not
July 17, 2008
Guardian “Comment is Free”
Earlier this week Charlie Brooker generated the largest number of online responses
to an article in the history of Comment is free. His theme was conspiracy theory
in general and the 9/11 conspiracy theories in particular — and it collected
more than 1,700 comments. Brooker thinks conspiracy theories console those who
find reality too dull and complicated without the garnish of a hidden agenda:
“Embrace a conspiracy theory and suddenly you’re part of a gang sharing
privileged information; your sense of power and dignity rises a smidgeon and
this troublesome world makes more sense, for a time.”
Brooker’s line belongs to a mini-genre of attempts to explain the public’s
willingness to entertain conspiracy theories in psychological terms. Indeed
he is very close to that stern rationalist Melanie Phillips, who has decided
that, in the absence of religion, conspiracy theories satisfy “our desperate
need to make order out of chaos”.
The conspiratorial world view does have its consolations. But so does Brooker’s.
There’s a certain pleasure and drama in declaring that the world is driven by
incompetence and error, and that things are more or less as they seem. You can
preen yourself on how well-adjusted you are, how you haven’t fallen for that
stuff about lizards, or Illuminati. You have learned to live without magic.
You’re saying “I don’t believe in… Continue reading

For almost a year and a half I have been in the loop on a most fantastic story involving the Herculean investigative reporting of Chris Emery, Holland Van den Nieuwenhof and crew from www.okcbombing.net
As hard as it was, I kept quiet and off the record, as the team investigated an angle of the 911 terrorist attack of 2001 which had Mohamed Atta (pictured right) and five of his alleged hijackers in Oklahoma City just days before 911, drunk, boisterous and brawling — Not a Koran, or prayer rug in site.
Last week – July 2008, they had reached the end of their investigation, and impenetrable walls of resistance prohibited them from going any further. Last Friday July 19th 2008 the Emery team decided to go public on my syndicated radio show, DEADLINE LIVE w/ Jack Blood. The result of which has sent shockwaves throughout the 911 truth community.
For the safety of all involved, the witnesses wish to remain anonymous until such time they can be guaranteed protection. All of the witnesses have given signed affidavits to Chris Emery. Documentation of the facts and evidence has been tucked away in safe houses in the USA and Canada. The evidence will later be released to Network Media, and the proper authorities.
The story started as the team was continuing their exhaustive research into the OKC Bombings of 1995. Almost accidentally they ran into witness after witness wanting to report that… Continue reading
Israel Planning a September/October Surprise?
By Ray McGovern
International Clearing House — You say you expected more rhetoric than reality from Senators Obama and McCain yesterday in their speeches on Iraq and Afghanistan? Well, that’s certainly what you got.
What I find nonetheless amazing is how they, and the pundits, have taken such little notice of the dramatic change in the political landscape occasioned by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s bombshell on July 7 — his insistence on a “timetable” for withdrawal of US troops before any accord is reached on their staying past the turn of the year.
Responding to a question at his press conference yesterday, President George W. Bush showed that he was vaguely aware that the timetable is, as Robert Dreyfuss says (in Truthout, July 7), a “big deal.” Bush even alluded haltingly to the possibility of extending the UN mandate still further.
But it is far from clear that Maliki, who is under great domestic pressure, would be able to sell that to the various factions upon which he depends for support, much less to those which he must keep at bay. As Dreyfuss points out, Maliki and his Shiite allies are also under considerable pressure from Iran, which remains the chief ally of the ruling alliance of Shiites. Most important, Maliki is by no means in control of what happens next.
Here’s where it gets sticky. No one who knows about third rails in US politics would expect the candidates or the fawning corporate media (FCM) to address how those now running Israel are likely to be looking at the implications of a large US troop withdrawal from Iraq next year.…Continue reading

Support Grows for NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative
(New York, NY, June 13, 2009) — On Thursday, July 10th at 12 noon, at Foley Square in New York City, former Senator Mike Gravel, speaking on behalf of the New York City 9/11 Ballot Initiative Campaign, will call for a new and far reaching investigation of the crimes of 9/11. Advocating for the creation of an independent 9/11 Commission, Gravel states, “We’re trying to change the paradigm of human democracy, of human governance, and that’s what this [NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative] is all about, changing the paradigm of human governance right here in New York City by asserting that you saw something wrong that took place, and you want to address it through using the tool of the Initiative, the legislative power of citizenry to go after that fundamental change.”
Accompanying Sen. Gravel will be 9/11 family member Bob McIlvaine who lost his son in the south tower, Tony-award winning actress Christine Ebersole, first responder John Feal, and former NSA analyst turned investigative reporter Wayne Madsen. For six years, Sibel Edmonds has been carrying out an heroic crusade to protect her adopted country from national security threats within the top levels of the American government. Hired as an FBI translator in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks, Edmonds, a Turkish American, threw herself into the daunting task of translating thousands of hours of recordings of backlogged intercepts in Turkic, Farsi, and Azerbaijani. What she heard on the tapes was alarming: Turkish agents in the United States bribing high-level U.S. officials and obtaining our military and intelligence secrets. What she witnessed at the FBI was even more appalling: translators who were intentionally filing false translations and passing information to foreign powers; and, what’s even worse, FBI superiors who did nothing about it when these serious breaches were brought to their attention.
Unwilling to settle for the bureaucratic “don’t rock the boat” response she faced from immediate supervisors, Sibel Edmonds decided to take her concerns higher up the FBI chain of command. The result? She was fired, and those she tried to have investigated got off scot-free; some fled the country to avoid potential prosecution, while others continued their alleged criminal and treasonous activities. Some of the FBI colleagues who blocked her efforts were promoted.
How could this be, especially in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, when “homeland security” was our number one concern? And especially since FBI Director Robert Mueller had expressly promised that the agency’s notorious penchant… Continue reading

Former White House spokesman Scott McClellan is testifying to the House Judiciary
Committee about his new revelations on the exposure of CIA agent Valerie Plame
and the Bush administration’s “propaganda campaign” that led the country
McClellan was invited to testify after publication of his tell all memoir,
What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception.
Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said the revelations McClellan wrote
about “may or may not constitute an impeachable offense.”
The revelation of a pre-war propaganda campaign was “a confirmation that
the White House played fast and loose with the truth in a time of war,”
Conyers said to open the hearing. “Depending on how one reads the Constitution,
that may or may not be an impeachable offense.”
Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, said Plame’s outing was a direct component of
that propaganda effort because it was aimed at discrediting her husband Joe
Wilson, a former ambassador who undercut the administration’s argument that
Saddam Hussein was attempting to buy nuclear weapons materials from Africa.
Friday’s hearing, he said, was aimed at uncovering possible evidence of obstruction
of justice and painting a fuller picture of administration officials involvement
“not only in the leak but also in the coverup.”
Rep. Lamar Smith, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, gave a prebuttal
of McClellan’s testimony, reciting accusations that McClellan was simply trying
to make a buck with a critical book and that he was perhaps trying to get back
at his former bosses.…

It’s crazy, but it’s coming soon — from the same folks who brought us Iraq.
Unlike the attack on Iraq five years ago, to deal with Iran there need be no massing of troops. And, with the propaganda buildup already well under way, there need be little, if any, forewarning before shock and awe and pox — in the form of air and missile attacks — begin.
This time it will be largely the Air Force’s show, punctuated by missile and
air strikes by the Navy. Israeli-American agreement has now been reached at
the highest level; the armed forces planners, plotters and pilots are working
out the details.
Emerging from a 90-minute White House meeting with President George W. Bush on June 4, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the two leaders were of one mind:
“We reached agreement on the need to take care of the Iranian threat. I left with a lot less question marks [than] I had entered with regarding the means, the timetable restrictions, and American resoluteness to deal with the problem. George Bush understands the severity of the Iranian threat and the need to vanquish it, and intends to act on that matter before the end of his term in the White House.”
Does that sound like a man concerned that Bush is just bluff and bluster?
A member of Olmert’s delegation noted that same day that the two countries
had agreed to cooperate in case of an attack… Continue reading

"Scoop" Independent News
(June 17, NYC). A surprise development occurred at today’s hearing in the case
of Susan Lindauer versus the United States. A long time associate of the accused,
associate professor of computer science at Toronto’s York University, Parke
Godfrey, Ph.D., testified that Susan Lindauer predicted an attack on the United
States in the southern part of Manhattan. According to his testimony, she said
that the attack would be very similar to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade
Center. Godfrey said that Lindauer made the prediction on several occasions,
one as late as August 2001.
The testimony occurred in a hearing on Lindauer’s competence to stand trial
held before U.S. District Court Judge Loretta Preska, Southern District of New
York, in lower Manhattan. On March 11, 2004, Lindauer was arrested for acting
as an "unregistered agent" for the nation of Iraq prior to the U.S.
invasion. Prosecutors have delayed the trial for over four years claiming Lindauer
was delusional for asserting that she was a U.S. intelligence asset over a period
of nine years, including the period covered by the indictment.
This was Lindauer’s first real opportunity to argue her competence to stand
trial and deny the delusions claimed by court psychiatrists. Lindauer asserts
that she had been a U.S. intelligence asset since working on the Lockerbie case
and subsequent antiterrorism efforts.
Appearing for the defense, Dr. Godfrey testified under oath that Lindauer told
him of her specific concerns about an… Continue reading

NEW YORK: Government lawyers say the ongoing investigation into the Sept.
11 attacks could be compromised if the airline industry is allowed to seek more
information from the FBI to defend itself against lawsuits brought by terrorism
In papers filed late Tuesday, the government urged a judge to block aviation
companies from interviewing five FBI employees who the companies say will help
them prove the government withheld key information before the 2001 attacks.
The lawyers said it would be impossible to interview the employees without
disclosing classified or privileged material that could "cause serious
damage to national security and interfere with pending law enforcement proceedings."
"The harm described is not hypothetical and cannot be lightly dismissed,"
according to the court papers submitted by the office of U.S. Attorney Michael
Garcia. "Investigators continue to seek out those parties responsible for
the 9/11 attacks who remain at large."
The largest investigation in FBI history has resulted in 167,000 interviews
and more than 155,000 pieces of evidence and involved the pursuit of 500,000
investigative leads, the lawyers wrote.
They said the aviation lawyers were unrealistic to think the investigation
would not be compromised if they speak to the FBI employees.
"In fact, it is not possible to disentangle the classified from the unclassified
information in the context of a deposition, where open-ended inquiries may elicit
responses in which classified or privileged material is intertwined," they
So far, the government said, the FBI has turned over… Continue reading
Tim Russert, Dick Cheney, and 9/11
by Prof. David Ray Griffin

While we are remembering Tim Russert and his years as moderator of “Meet the Press,” we would do well to recall his interview with Vice President Dick Cheney at Camp David on September 16, 2001, just five days after the 9/11 attacks. 1 In fact, Cheney himself, during an interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer the morning after Russert died, reminded us of that Camp David interview, saying: “I always, when I think of Tim and think of ‘Meet the Press,’ that’s the show that always comes to mind. . . . It was a remarkable moment in American history.” 2
Commenting that he himself “remember[ed] that interview vividly,” Lauer asked: “Anything stand out from that interview?” In his reply, Cheney said: “We went back and reminisced to some extent about what had actually happened on the morning of 9/11. So it was—it was a remarkable moment in my career.” 3
It was indeed. In reminiscing about his movements that morning, Cheney contradicted what was to become a crucial element of the account that the 9/11 Commission would give of those movements.
In praising Russert’s tenure on “Meet the Press,” Cheney said: “He would ask you tough questions, he would remind you of quotes you made previously in other settings or on earlier shows, so you never got away with anything going up vis-à-vis Tim.” 4
Given Cheney’s appraisal of his interview with Russert as… Continue reading
