Barack Obama says he will:
* leave 80,000 troops, thousands of private contractors, and 17 permanent

* send 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan , leading to more killings of civilians;
* keep sending robot drones over Pakistan, killing more civilians;
* deploy nuclear carriers with enough firepower to annihilate any country in
* support the Israeli siege on Gaza;
* keep in place the “secret rendition” program which Bush used to
* keep the government spying on citizens and continue Bush’s “state
* increase the U.S. military by 92,000 troops, sending more to die for empire;
* refuse to investigate & prosecute the war and torture crimes of the Bush
The election of the first black president is effectively re-branding preemptive
and illegal wars of aggression to make us feel good about them, enlisting us
to “serve and sacrifice” for horrors we have no good reason to support.
The U.S. war on Afghanistan is an unjust war of aggression–the supreme
war crime, waged not to bring democracy and liberation to the Afghan
people, but to control Afghanistan with the goal of permanent domination of
the Middle East.… Continue reading

Support a Truth & Reconciliation Commission
32,823 signatures so far (2/24/09) … keep it going!
I have proposed the idea of a truth and reconciliation commission to investigate
abuses during the Bush-Cheney Administration — so they never happen again.
These abuses may include the use of torture, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary
rendition, and executive override of laws.
Please sign this online petition, urging Congress to consider establishing
a truth and reconciliation commission to investigate the Bush-Cheney Administration’s
Watch my February 8 remarks at Georgetown University:
Full Petition Text:
I hereby join Senator Patrick Leahy’s call for the establishment of a truth
and reconciliation commission, to investigate the Bush-Cheney Administration’s
constitutional abuses so we make sure they never happen again. These abuses
may include the use of torture, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary rendition,
and executive override of laws.
A truth and reconciliation commission should be tasked with seeking answers
so that we can develop a shared understanding of the failures of the recent
past. Rather than vengeance, we need a fair-minded pursuit of what actually
happened. The best way to move forward is getting to the truth and finding out
what happened — so we can make sure it does not happen again.
What’s At Stake?

A Citizen’s Petition to Attorney General-Designate Eric Holder asking him to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute any and all government officials who have participated in War Crimes.
You can read and/or sign the Petition for a Special Prosecutor to Investigate Bush War Crimes here, or by clicking on the Badge here.
We urge Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a non-partisan independent Special Counsel to immediately commence a prosecutorial investigation into the most serious alleged crimes of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Richard B. Cheney, the attorneys formerly employed by the Department of Justice whose memos sought to justify torture, and other former top officials of the Bush Administration.
UPDATE 2/27/09 6pm: In response to the many email questions we’ve received asking why we have not endorsed this call for a Special Prosecutor: On 2/24, when this statement/petition was posted at AfterDowningStreet.org, 911truth.org immediately signed on as an endorsing organization via the signup at that site. As of now, our name does not appear on that list. Nonetheless, we did submit endorsement. We are not, yet, encouraging 9/11 truth advocates to politely contact David Swanson asking him why he would permanently post a video statement from Willie Rodriguez on the front page of his site, yet continue to ignore/ban the burgeoning 9/11 truth movement from being heard as the powerful voice we are, in calling for truth and accountability. We believe that Mr. Swanson is acting in good faith, all in all, and will post our endorsement with the others on the list shortly.
Our laws, and treaties that under Article VI of our Constitution are the supreme law of the land, require the prosecution of crimes that strong evidence suggests these individuals have committed. Both the former president and the former vice president have confessed to authorizing a torture procedure that is illegal under our law and treaty obligations.…Continue reading
Liberal Leaders Betray Antiwar Cause To Serve Dems and Obama — Again
by John Walsh
February 25th, 2009
In the Wall Street Journal of January 24, the loathsome McCarthyite neocon David Horowitz gazed approvingly on the inauguration of Barack Obama. To Horowitz it meant the removal of an obstacle to war. Thus he wrote:
Consider: When President Obama commits this nation to war against the Islamic terrorists, as he already has in Afghanistan, he will take millions of previously alienated and disaffected Americans with him, and they will support our troops in a way that most of his party has refused to support them until now. When another liberal, Bill Clinton went to war from the air, there was no anti-war movement in the streets or in his party’s ranks to oppose him. That is an encouraging fact for us . . .
Horowitz is now locked in fast embrace with Katrina Vanden Heuvel, editor in chief of The Nation and Leslie Cagan and her cohorts at United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ). Vanden Heuvel’s most recent piece in The Nation runs under a title in the form of a query, “Obama’s War?” Whose war does she think it is anyway? Even the mainstream media calls it Obama’s war — sans question mark. Her piece ran shortly after Obama ordered 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan and almost a month after both Afghan and Pakistani civilians were first bombed at Obama’s orders. She concludes her piece, after citing the deployment of additional troops, “Up to this point the Afghan war belonged to George W.…Continue reading

Barack Obama said last Tuesday night to Congress, ‘I will not allow terrorists
to plot against the American people from safe havens halfway around the world.
We will not allow it.‘
I wonder how people in the Middle East felt hearing that, having been bombed
as if they are terrorists for most of this decade, either directly by US planes,
or with US made weapons, as in Gaza? An Iraqi in Sikrit, said, “In fact,
the US forces achieved one thing: That is destroying Iraq … We hope that
the US soldiers will leave our country sooner rather than later in order to
put an end to the bloodiest pages in Iraq’s history.’
The US Defense Department is finally allowing the news media to photograph
caskets and funerals of US military, even as Robert Gates and the generals in
charge are warning that the next year, with 17,000 more US troops going into
Afghanistan, is going to be very “rough.’
Thursday, Obama announced plans to remove some troops from Iraq over a 19 month
period, unless the generals advise him otherwise. The remaining 30,000
to 50,000 troops will be re-named “advisors’ and stay indefinitely; the 17 US
bases will remain in US control.
Those who are breathing a sigh of relief that US troops are being slowly removed
from Iraq should stop and realize that this is part of an overall strategy to
deepen and strengthen, not end, US domination of… Continue reading

“The New Pearl Harbor Revisited: 9/11, the Cover-Up, and the Exposé”
A Book and Presentation by Dr. David Ray Griffin
April 11, 2009
Boston University – Morse Auditorium, 602 Commonwealth Ave.
7:00-9:00pm [doors open @ 6:30pm]
Dr. David Ray Griffin is a prominent theologian and scholar and professor emeritus at the Claremont School of Theology in California, where he taught for over 30 years (retiring in 2004). He has authored or edited over two dozen books including five books that expose the outrageous lies of the U.S. government explanations of the 9/11 attacks.
Thanks substantially to his own extraordinary personal dedication to the work of exposing 9/11 truth, Griffin is able to conclude that, “The 9/11 truth movement’s exposé of the 9/11 cover-up has shown that virtually every dimension of the official account of 9/11 to be false beyond a reasonable doubt.”
In the preface to one of his books, “Christian Faith and the Truth behind 9/11″ Dr. Griffin explains why it is that he leads the struggle for 9/11 Truth: “One of our main tasks as theologians is to deal with current events in light of the fact that our first allegiance must be to God, who created and loves all people–indeed all forms of life. If we believe that our political and military leaders are acting on the basis of policies that are diametrically opposed to divine purposes, it is incumbent upon us to… Continue reading

On the eve of the sixth anniversary of the United States’ invasion of Iraq,
hundreds of protesters in New York City made it clear on Thursday that while
they welcomed the change in American political leadership, they would not relent
in urging President Obama to accelerate the withdrawal of combat forces from
The protests were perhaps more muted than the massive demonstrations of years
past, but no less fervent.
In Union Square, where about 120 people huddled together under the awning of
a subway station, staying out of the rain, some protesters said that Mr. Obama,
the new president, who as an Illinois state senator had opposed the war, had
continued some of the Bush administration’s most controversial policies.
Debra Sweet, 57, one of the protest organizers, said the Obama administration
had continued the policy of secret renditions of terrorism suspects, and she
called for “righteous anger at this occupation.” Many in the crowd
were high-school students.
“We’re not putting everything on Obama, whether it be hope or condemnation,”
she said of the new president. She said of the high-school students around her:
“They understand they have no voice. They’re too young to vote but
they will be the ones to foot the bill for this war and they know it.”
Another protester, Sonsara Taylor, said she was also angered by American policies
on Gaza and Pakistan and called for the investigation, and possible prosecution,
of members of the Bush administration who argued for the Iraq war.…

On 9/11 the Bush administration declared a State of Emergency (SOE), which was formally proclaimed on September 14, 2001, and extended by Bush repeatedly thereafter, most recently on August 28, 2008. 1 Under cover of this SOE, Bush secretly enacted many extreme measures, ranging from suspension of habeas corpus to preparations for martial law in America; all these were undertaken as part of secret so-called “Continuity of Government” (COG) procedures associated with the SOE, and first instituted on 9/11. 2 and 3
The National Emergencies Act, one of the post-Watergate reforms so detested by Vice-President Cheney, requires specifically that
Not later than six months after a national emergency is declared, and not later than the end of each six-month period thereafter that such emergency continues, each House of Congress shall meet to consider a vote on a joint resolution to determine whether that emergency shall be terminated. (50 U.S.C. 1622 (2002) 4
Last fall one of us appealed on the Internet for the Democrats in Congress to take this statutorily required step, and also to learn what secret COG measures were being enacted under the SOE. 5 There was no response.
In February 2009 we sent to officials in Washington the following appeal to consider terminating the State of Emergency. The appeal was sent to President Obama’s staff in the White House, and to the staff of Nancy Pelosi, Peter DeFazio, and Dennis Kucinich in Congress. Almost two months have passed, and there has not yet been any response from the addressees.…Continue reading
On Tuesday we posted an appeal for readers to take action regarding a current state of national emergency in the US, declared by George W. Bush after 9/11/01. Since then, the appeal has been sent to at least 20,000 people via email, linked to from numerous other sites, and reposted in full at several sites. We are beginning to get notification from readers of specific Representatives and Senators to whom letters are being sent, with follow-up calls planned. Please continue to send those to us at responses[at]911truth.org. We intend to start posting that information shortly.
Some people have written to ask whether we’ve completely lost our collective mind… “Do you really think this Congress–who has refused to investigate or even talk about 9/11 crimes for all these years–is suddenly going to divulge honest information about their lack of oversight of National Emergencies, and act to terminate it just because you send them a letter?!” Well, uhm, not really, no.
But do we think some of them will look into it and respond with a real answer? Perhaps. Do we think we’ll get a lot of boilerplate responses about “the danger terrorists pose to the safety of every God-fearing Amurikan and so we must remain vigilant,” but don’t actually answer either question? Probably. However, equally important is simply getting this information to them, and to Americans who read this and had no idea of the situation. Personally, my (Janice) experience has been that when I called my Rep previously, outraged about… Continue reading
Professor David Ray Griffin, renowned author of a series of eye-opening books
that recount his painstaking research into the attacks of September 11, 2001,
begins his new European tour in London on 14th April. Stressing the fact that
the time has come for a second look at the events of that fateful day, the tour
will include stops in Paris, Brussels and Madrid, and several other cities.
Professor Griffin’s talks will afford the public an excellent opportunity
to learn more about the fundamental questions surrounding 9/11. The 9/11 Truth
Movement, which started out as a disparate, grass-roots undertaking, has blossomed
into a serious community that now includes many specialized branches, such as
Pilots for 9/11 Truth, Firefighters for 9/11 Truth, Lawyers for 9/11 Truth,
Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Medical Professionals for 9/11 Truth,
Political Leaders for 9/11 Truth, Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth, Veterans
for 9/11 Truth, and Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice (a group which includes
a significant number of prominent scientists). Many former intelligence officers
also support the movement and have contributed to the ever-growing list of evidence
that proves far beyond a reasonable doubt that the explanations provided by
the Bush-Cheney administration are quite simply false.

Dear Friends around the World,
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW
To place a public referendum for an impartial, independent and subpoena powered investigation of 9/11 on the New York City Ballot for the November General Election.
The 9/11 Commission was set up in 2002 to “provide the fullest possible account of the events surrounding 9/11”. What we got instead, in the words of Commission Chairs Governor Thomas Kean and Representative Lee Hamilton, was a Commission “Set up to fail”. A joint statement from both sides of the aisle is a rarity. This one speaks volumes.
AMERICA DESERVES BETTER
Today, over 66% of New York City residents support a new 9/11 investigation. Millions now know that critical questions were left unaddressed. Only an objective, independent, subpoena powered investigation can ask the right people the relevant questions the 9/11 Commission certainly did not. Only an impartial investigation, free from intervention and powered by subpoena, can deliver the answers that every American deserves.
Thanks to your hard work and dedication in keeping 9/11 front and center all along, the NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative has succeeded in collecting over 30,000 signatures, leading us to the final phase of our mission; to place a referendum for an independent subpoena powered 9/11 investigation on the NYC Ballot for the November General Election.
Those 30,000 signatures are needed to present the petition to the New York City Council for its approval. Our goal, however, is 75,000 signatures by the end of June, making it a virtual certainty that the referendum will be on the ballot, placing the decision to approve the pursuit of evidence and fact wherever it may lead exactly where it belongs – in the hands of New York City voters.…Continue reading

To All Those Who Agree We Can’t Get 9/11 Truth Without the Internet!
We need to put pressure on S. 773. This bill has been introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and the first assessment of the language is alarming. Among other things, this legislation would give the President of the United States the authority to “shut down” the Internet during a “national emergency” without providing any specifics on what that means.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation describes the situation as follows:
There’s a new bill working its way through Congress that is cause for some alarm: the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 ( PDF summary here ), introduced by Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). The bill as it exists now risks giving the federal government unprecedented power over the Internet without necessarily improving security in the ways that matter most. It should be opposed or radically amended.
Essentially, the Act would federalize critical infrastructure security. Since many of our critical infrastructure systems (banks, telecommunications, energy) are in the hands of the private sector, the bill would create a major shift of power away from users and companies to the federal government. This is a potentially dangerous approach that favors the dramatic over the sober response.
One proposed provision gives the President unfettered authority to shut down Internet traffic in an emergency and disconnect critical infrastructure systems on national… Continue reading

Many deeply concerned citizens of this Republic and the world have been engaged in tireless, multifaceted research and investigation about the events surrounding the 9/11 tragedy. These patriots have produced articles, essays, books and films that seek answers to the multitude of unanswered questions about this atrocity. Not having researched these questions myself and having no answers, when I have appeared before them I have encouraged the continuation of their valuable work as citizens of the Republic.
In their numbers are distinguished scientists, engineers, architects, professional people from all walks of life and families of victims who seek closure — people for whose courage, determination, intelligence and steadfastness, I have boundless admiration. It was largely as a result of their efforts that a 9/11 Commission was established in the first place over the initial opposition of the Bush administration.
The failure of that Commission to seek, even address the critical questions is now a part of contemporary history. Former Georgia Senator, Max Cleland, resigned early on in disgust citing official obstruction. More recently, Co-Chairmen Kean and Hamilton, have themselves declared their awareness that their work was obstructed and denied valuable information, materials and evidence. Consequently, there is overwhelming agreement that the initial government sponsored investigation was a failure in respect of bringing truth about 9/11 to the light of day.
That is why a group of citizens in the City of New York, aided, supported and encouraged by citizens throughout the United States… Continue reading
