The FBI has quietly built a sophisticated, point-and-click surveillance system
that performs instant wiretaps on almost any communications device, according
to nearly a thousand pages of restricted documents newly released under the
Freedom of Information Act.
The surveillance system, called DCSNet, for Digital Collection System Network,
connects FBI wiretapping rooms to switches controlled by traditional land-line
operators, internet-telephony providers and cellular companies. It is far more
intricately woven into the nation’s telecom infrastructure than observers suspected.
It’s a “comprehensive wiretap system that intercepts wire-line phones,
cellular phones, SMS and push-to-talk systems,” says Steven Bellovin, a
Columbia University computer science professor and longtime surveillance expert.

DCSNet is a suite of software that collects, sifts and stores phone numbers,
phone calls and text messages. The system directly connects FBI wiretapping
outposts around the country to a far-reaching private communications network.
Many of the details of the system and its full capabilities were redacted from
the documents acquired by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, but they show
that DCSNet includes at least three collection components, each running on Windows-based
The $10 million DCS-3000 client, also known as Red Hook, handles pen-registers
and trap-and-traces, a type of surveillance that collects signaling information
— primarily the numbers dialed from a telephone — but no communications content.
(Pen registers record outgoing calls; trap-and-traces record incoming calls.)
DCS-6000, known as Digital Storm, captures and collects the content of phone
calls and text messages for full wiretap orders.… Continue reading

Following are key details of the martial law implemented by General Jaruzelski
in Poland on December 13, 1981.
The immediate reasons for the martial law were:
* Social unrest and opposition to the existing political system led by the
“Solidarity” movement, culminating in a call to establish national
self-government outside of the official government structures;
* Pressure put on Polish government by the Soviet Union and other communist
governments in the Soviet Block to outlaw “Solidarity” and to minimize
its influence on similar popular movements in other communist countries;
* Crashing economy, market shortages, and a resulting recession.
There are many similarities between the situation that led to the establishment
of martial law in Poland and the current situation in the United States and
other Western countries. Among these, the most relevant are:
* Expected popular protest and social unrest to oppose the corporate take over
of the political system, the end of democracy, and the continental deep integration;
* Expected protests and organized action to oppose the war agenda;
* Crashing economy and a possibility of a market break down.
Due to these similarities, it can be expected that the organization and management
of the martial law in the United States (and possibly in other western countries)
will be similar to that in Poland two and a half decades ago. It is also possible
that forces preparing the martial law today draw on experiences and conclusions
from the “Jaruzelski’s War Against the Nation.”… Continue reading

The Shock Doctrine
Welcome to ShockDoctrine.com. This website is more than a promotional tool for a book, although you can receive the latest news about The Shock Doctrine, read reviews , and see where you can purchase a copy .
The process of researching The Shock Doctrine was so fascinating and revelatory that I was left with a strong desire to share as much of my own discovery experience as possible — to steer readers to the books, essays, documentary films and primary documents that did so much to shape The Shock Doctrine . In that spirit, ShockDoctrine.com is designed to serve as a living companion to the book for readers — particularly students and educators — who want to delve deeper into the book’s material and themes, and who want to see the evidence for themselves.
Debra Levy, a trained librarian, was the primary researcher for The Shock Doctrine , working for years on the project. After the book was complete, she dedicated herself to opening up our research files and putting them online, curating, along with designer Andrew Childs,… Continue reading
Gary Hart warns Iran to beware Cheney false-flag provocation for U.S. attack
Sept. 28. The following brief open letter is from Gary Hart, the former Democratic senator from Colorado and winner of presidential primaries in 1984, also the co-author of the much-cited 2000 Hart-Rudman report on terrorism, writing in the Huffington Post yesterday in the form of
“Unsolicited Advice to the Government of Iran”
Presuming that you are not actually ignorant enough to desire war with the United States, you might be well advised to read the history of the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana harbor in 1898 and the history of the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964.
Having done so, you will surely recognize that Americans are reluctant to go to war unless attacked. Until Pearl Harbor, we were even reluctant to get involved in World War II. For historians of American wars the question is whether we provoke provocations.
Given the unilateral U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, you are obviously thinking the rules have changed. Provocation is no longer required to take America to war. But even in this instance, we were led to believe that the mass murderer of American civilians, Osama bin Laden, was lurking, literally or figuratively, in the vicinity of Baghdad.
Given all this, you would probably be well advised to keep your forces, including clandestine forces, as far away from the Iraqi border as you can. You might even consider bringing in some… Continue reading

More than five years after war began in Iraq, veterans speak out against the
Being a good soldier means following the orders given by higher ranking officers,
out of a sense of duty and loyalty to protect his country.
But what happens when a soldier feels his commanding officers, even the Commander
in Chief, has betrayed and abandoned the Constitution?
Tony Teolis of Fairfax wrestled with that question for years before joining
Veterans for Peace, one of many organizations that help veterans find the courage
and the voice to speak out against the current occupation of Iraq.
“As veterans, we believe in the Constitution as the law of the land, and
we took an oath to preserve, protect and defend it,” Teolis said. It is
the same oath congressmen, senators and the president also take when they step
into office, and Teolis and other like-minded veterans believe those elected
officials have abandoned the Constitution by going into Iraq under false pretenses.
“A declaration of war without a direct order from Congress, combined
with the abuse of human rights, the abuse and threat of invasion to other nations
are all signs that Congress and the president are not fulfilling their duties,”
A VETERAN of the first Gulf War in the early 1990s, Teolis spent several years
in Japan following his combat duty. With a long family history of military service,
he was proud to serve his country and for the work he had done in helping to
liberate Kuwait from Iraqi control.…

‘A Coup Has Occurred’
By Daniel Ellsberg
September 26, 2007 (Text of a speech delivered September 20, 2007)
Consortium Editor’s Note: Daniel Ellsberg, the former
Defense Department analyst who leaked the secret Pentagon Papers history of
the Vietnam War, offered insights into the looming war with Iran and the loss
of liberty in the United States at an American University symposium on Sept.
Below is an edited transcript of Ellsberg’s remarkable speech:
I think nothing has higher priority than averting an attack on Iran, which
I think will be accompanied by a further change in our way of governing here
that in effect will convert us into what I would call a police state.
If there’s another 9/11 under this regime … it means that they
switch on full extent all the apparatus of a police state that has been patiently
constructed, largely secretly at first but eventually leaked out and known and
accepted by the Democratic people in Congress, by the Republicans and so forth.
Will there be anything left for NSA to increase its surveillance of us? …
They may be to the limit of their technical capability now, or they may not.
But if they’re not now they will be after another 9/11.
And I would say after the Iranian retaliation to an American attack on Iran,
you will then see an increased attack on Iran — an escalation —
which will be also accompanied by a total suppression of dissent in this country,
including… Continue reading
R-N prof and dean, Dr. Barry R. Komisaruk brings up evidence surrounding 9/11,
questioning the official account
By: Dr. Barry R. Komisaruk
Six years later, the impact is still felt. The implications are still more
troubling. My vivid recollections are the sudden silent disappearance from my
vantage point from Smith Hall on Warren Street of the towers, replaced by a
giant plume of white smoke, and my thought of the futility of the UMDNJ’s calling
and mobilizing all health care personnel; no person in the buildings could survive
Some months later over breakfast with a colleague, I reacted in disbelief when
he said, “You know, there was no debris from a jetliner crash evident in
photos of the Pentagon that day.” His claim started me to read extensively
about the events of the day.
These questions are not mere academic exercises. Rather, they challenge the
entire official dogma of what happened on that fateful day. The observations
are readily available and clearly evident from existing news reports, books,
and photos and videos on the Internet. They have not been accounted for convincingly,
or even at all, by the official U.S. government reports, and they have not even
been challenged by the mass media. They raise serious doubts and questions as
to what really happened on that day.
If the assumptions about the true nature of the events are erroneous, then
the policies that have been justified by those assumptions must be questioned
-ongoing policies that… Continue reading
911Truth finally hit progressive primetime on 9/11/07. Richard Greene, host of Air America program “Clout,” welcomed four guests to the show to discuss 9/11 truth, while broadcasting live from the candlelight commemoration in L.A. Guests included “Jersey Girl” Lorie Van Auken , 911truth.org’s Janice Matthews, Colonel Ann Wright , who resigned her State Department post in protest of the Iraq occupation, and Gina Belafonte, daughter of outspoken justice activist and 911truth supporter, Harry Belafonte.
At the end of the program, Richard tells listeners that demanding a congressional reinvestigation of 9/11 should become a “project” of Air America. many readers are aware that other Air America hosts, such as Thom Hartmann, have also been talking 911truth lately. Bravo to Mr. Greene for placing the issue in prime time.
On a related note, the People’s Email Network issued a campaign to demand Congressional reinvestigation of 9/11 within days of this interview. Their text reads:
TELL CONGRESS WE WANT THE TRUTH ABOUT 9/11 AND NOTHING LESS
By the admission of the chairmen of the 9/11 commission itself, they did not get to the truth, and were deliberately impeded and deceived through their entire investigation.
We are not going to attempt in this alert to theorize about what the actual truth is. The one thing we know for sure is that the “official” story is a fairy tale, just like children’s book Bush kept reading while he did NOTHING during the attack itself.

Astute readers have brought some virtual outrage to our attention in the last few days, which we’re passing on here, in hopes it will be of help to you in making decisions about virtual privacy and safety, and as yet more evidence that the practice of censoring ‘inconvenient’ truth is alive and well right here in the good ol’ USofA. These readers reported that an internet search for 911truth.org, using Google’s search engine, no longer finds 911truth.org in the results!
Intrepid researchers that we are, we tried this for ourselves and, indeed, they’re right! Go ahead…try it. Enter “911truth.org” in a Google search bar and you’ll find, currently, the first entry in response is some unheard of site based in the country Nauru. (Nauru?, we asked ourselves, wondering how we could possibly have missed that in geography class. Wikipedia helped with that oversight. Ah, but, of course! It’s that 8.1 square mile phosphate rock island in Micronesia, whose government “has resorted to unusual measures to obtain income.” Briefly a tax haven and money laundering center, Nauru now houses a detention center for Australian asylum seekers.) Well, then–that explains it, eh?
So then, the site with the greatest number of hits which most closely matches the search string “911truth.org” is … not … 911truth.org? In fact, the main (index) page of 911truth.org isn’t even in the list generated by a Google search for ’911truth.org’! A page from our site linking to the Chicago conference we hosted in June 2006 shows up.… Continue reading

Official Account of 9/11 a “Joke” and a “Cover-up”
September 23, 2007 — Seven CIA veterans have severely criticized the official account of 9/11 and have called for a new investigation. “I think at simplest terms, there’s a cover-up. The 9/11 Report is a joke,” said Raymond McGovern, 27-year veteran of the CIA, who chaired National Intelligence Estimates during the seventies. “There are a whole bunch of unanswered questions. And the reason they’re unanswered is because this administration will not answer the questions,” he said. McGovern, who is also the founder of VIPS (Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity), is one of many signers of a petition to reinvestigate 9/11.
During his 27-year CIA career, McGovern personally delivered intelligence briefings to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, their Vice Presidents, Secretaries of State, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and many other senior government officials. Upon retirement in 1990, McGovern was awarded the CIA’s Intelligence Commendation Medallion and received a letter of appreciation from then President George H. W. Bush. However, McGovern returned the award in 2006 in protest of the current George W. Bush Administration’s advocacy and use of torture.
In his blurb for 9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out, edited by David Ray Griffin and Peter Dale Scott, McGovern wrote: “It has long been clear that the Bush-Cheney administration cynically exploited the attacks of 9/11 to promote its imperial designs. But the present… Continue reading

Look On My Works, Ye Mighty, And Despair!
This is the 100th show on Electric

with a genuinely revolutionary soul, Dr.
Paul Craig Roberts. We talk about 9/11, about the emerging American

to make change happen. And as far as I’m concerned, he’s a true American hero.

Even the chair of the 9/11 Commission now admits that the official evidence they were given was ‘far from the truth’.
September 12, 2007 10:30 AM
Six years after 9/11, the American public have still not been provided with a full and truthful account of the single greatest terror attack in US history.
The chair and vice chair of the 9/11 Commission, respectively Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton, assert in their book, Without Precedent, that they were “set up to fail” and were starved of funds to do a proper investigation. They also confirm that they were denied access to the truth and misled by senior officials in the Pentagon and the federal aviation authority; and that this obstruction and deception led them to contemplate slapping officials with criminal charges.
Despite the many public statements by 9/11 commissioners and staff members acknowledging they were repeatedly lied to, not a single person has ever been charged, tried, or even reprimanded, for lying to the 9/11 Commission.
From the outset, the commission seemed to be hobbled. It did not start work until over a year after the attacks. Even then, its terms of reference were suspiciously narrow, its powers of investigation curiously limited and its time-frame for producing a report unhelpfully short – barely a year to sift through millions of pages of evidence and to interview hundreds of key witnesses.…Continue reading

Six years after the Sept. 11 attacks, the number of first responders and workers
who are ill and seeking monitoring and treatment continues to rise, a trend
that surprises the medical professionals caring for them.
“When you are seeing this many people five or six years later, that catches
everybody’s attention,” said Janet Levelle, the senior social worker at
Stony Brook University Medical Center’s Long Island World Trade Center Monitoring
and Treatment Program based in Islandia and Nassau University Medical Center.
Dr. Benjamin Luft, who heads the Long Island program, said his group saw about
1,400 responders and workers from July 2006 to July 2007, more than twice what
they expected. About 68 percent of those were first-time visitors, and more
than 35 percent ended up with some treatment, including attention for respiratory,
gastrointestinal and mental health issues.
“Very honestly, in 2001 we did not expect this level,” Luft said.
Even as more seek help, issues about workers’ compensation benefits and funding
for monitoring and treatment programs persist. “We’re at a sad point,”
said John Feal, president of Feal Good Foundation, an advocacy group for Sept.

On Aug. 15, before an overflow crowd at the federal courthouse at 7th and
Mission in San Francisco, three judges from the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
listened to lawyers argue whether the once-obscure “state secrets privilege”
gives the government an absolute right to withhold documents, bury evidence
and block lawsuits.
The government claimed the privilege in connection with two cases challenging
the Bush administration’s domestic surveillance programs, including its controversial
warrantless wiretapping operation. Deputy Solicitor General Gregory Garre, arguing
for the government, maintained that the cases should be dismissed instantly,
no questions asked, because a trial would endanger national security. Presenting
any evidence in a courtroom, he said, would put the country at “exceptionally
When it comes to national security, Garre said, judges must give the executive
branch the “utmost deference.”
After listening to such claims for a while, the senior judge on the appellate
panel, Harry Pregerson, asked Garre whether the state secrets privilege meant
that the courts must simply “rubber stamp” the decisions of the executive.
“The bottom line here is the government declares something is a state secret,
that’s the end of it,” Pregerson said. “The king can do no wrong.”
“This seems to put us in the ‘trust us’ category,” said Judge M.
Margaret McKeown, referring to government assurances that the surveillance program
didn’t violate the law. “We don’t do it. Trust us.…
